JP1 Remotes

Hello,

i have a JP1 serial interface with 74HC03 circuit.

Today i tried to use the interface together with the following
"USB to RS232 Converter Cable":

When i plug the "USB TO RS232 Cable" in the USB port, i get a
third serial port 'Com3'.

Then I started the ir.exe application. In the menu ...

.. i changed the interface settings to ---> COM3:



After changing the settings, i used the two cables (USB cable
+ 74HC03 interface cable) together and i tried to download some data
from the remote.

-But when i use the two cables together and i try to download some data from the remote,
an error message pops up, and i can't get a connection to the remote.

Why can't i download some data from the remote when using the
serial interface together with the USB converter cable?

In theory it should work. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you've got the latest driverss for the converter cable. Also, check the port settings for COM3 in Windows Device Manager to make sure it's properly configured.

I checked the serial USB cable with a selfmade Visual Basic program
and the cable is ok.

I can change the bit rate from
110 Bit per Second to 921600 Bit per Second.

Today i used the serial interface at Com2
(the RS232 port on the computer back) and I
could download and upload data from/to the remote.

The Com2 port is set to 9600 Baud and Xon/Xoff

So I set the Com3 port to 9600 Baud and Xon/Xoff, too.


-But when i use the two cables (USB cable + serial cable) at Com3, the ir.exe program shows the following
error message:

"The interface does not appear to have power. This can occur if the remote has no batteries, or
if the interface is not correctly connected to the remote."

I hadn't considered the power aspect. I'm not sure if the USB converter provides the same power that a standard serial port does. It's likely to be the problem, especially since you say the JP1 cable works on a normal port.

I suppose the JP1 cable could somehow be reconfigured to be self powered, but I wouldn't know where to begin. Perhaps Tommy Tyler will see this and offer his advice...
