I read the "FAQ: What is the best JP1 remote?" under JP1-General Forum but it was posted on 11/30/2003. Is there an update to it? If I want to buy one today, which should I go with? All I want to do is being able to power up one or more devices and have the TV select the proper input souce. For example, for DVD watch, I want the TV and DVD power up and the TV select the DVD as the input source. Thanks.

I would recommend the URC-8910 as it lets you program macros to the device buttons even without using an extender. I sell these for $20 each, plus $4 shipping.

How is battery life on an 8910 compared with an 8811?

About the same, AFAIK. I don't think the LCD screens draw a whole lot of power.

The battery life on a "good" remote should be less because you program more macros etc. onto it and use it more! My 8910 is a whole lot better than my Kameleon 8040 but it depends how much you use the backlight I suppose. Certainly no cause for complaints so far.

I normally get well over a year on my 8910s, I rarely use the backlight and surf moderately. My dad gets about 6 months on his, but he uses the backlight all of the time.

Another newbie question. The one you sell has the JP1 pins on them already and I don't need to do any mod/addition to the remote, right?
Thank you

The URC-8910 is JP1 ready out of the box. No mods required.

You'll notice that it's listed under "JP1 Ready Remotes".

What's the difference between the 8910 and 9910? Is it just the IR blaster?

The RF extender and IR blaster. Otherwise identical - certainly identical from a JP1 programming point of view.
