Some UEI remotes, although they have 5, 6, 7 or 8 Device buttons, have in their processor the capability to behave as if they have more. In your case, up to 14 "devices". The only difference is that they have no physical "Device button" corresponding to them. In all other ways, however, they are like a Device - you can assign an setup code or an upgrade to it, use functions from it in a keymove or macro, etc. They become most useful when you use an extender, and can potentially multiplex several "virtual" or logical devices on a single device button. (Actually, I'm not sure, but I believe on certain remotes you can install device multiplexing without an extender, as well)

Actually, I'm not sure that that's true for this remote. When I created the RDF for this remote I noticed the extra device buckets, so I put those place holders for them in the RDF, but IIRC there aren't corresponding hidden device buttons to select them. I don't recall if we found a way to use them or not.

I don't even know what remote we're talking about (was that mentioned somewhere?).
But generically:
Many remote have extra device indexes.
In rare cases there is a non-physical device key that can simply be included in a macro where desired and would select that device mode.
In most cases the "advanced select" or similar special protocol can be used to select the extra device modes, but that requires a moderate amount of overhead:
1) A protocol upgrade
2) A device upgrade
3) A KeyMove to invoke it
4) In most practical usage you also need a macro to invoke the KeyMove.
Some extenders make the use of extra device indexes much simpler. Probably most of us who use extra device indexes also use extenders, so there isn't much discussion of using extra device indexes via the advanced select special protocol.

No it wasn't, but it would have to be either the URC-8910 or 15-2116 as those are the only two remotes that have these extra device buckets without corresponding hidden device buttons.
All the other remotes that I know of that have extra device buckets also have hidden device buttons (eg, URC-6131, URC-6012, URC-6800, URC-8820, etc)

WOW! I've caught Robman making a mistake!
In his other thread, bat says:
bat078 wrote:I have a urc 8010 that I have just started to program with the JP1 cable.
which is NOT a 8910/2116 clone.

What mistake?
1. There's no mention of the remote model in THIS thread.
2. We certainly don't go chasing down a user's other threads when they fail to include information in the current thread.
3. The URC-8010 doesn't have those device buckets, so it can't be a URC-8010 that he's asking about.

No probs Michael, I just checked your other threads and I see that you have 2 JP1 remotes, the URC-8010 that you mentioned in the "SHIFT KEY" thread that the Capn found, and the URC-8910 that you've been discussing in all your other threads.
Just FYI, we don't generally do a search on a user's name to fill in any missing information, so we just work with the info posted in the current thread.

sorry for the confusion
I don't actually have a URC-8010 .
I was asking about the shift command for my URC-8910
