JP1 Remotes

I asked URC for codes for the DVP-500 and they said 1020 & 1245. So I sent my 8811 in for upgrading, but neither code works.

I've also tried the four codes listed under Polaroid in the DVD upgrade section here

Any ideas what I could do next?

I recommend you use the template in the number 1 Code Search FAQ (linked in my sig below) as it will stimulate you to try some basic options, and obviate the need for us to ask lots of basic questions, like do you have the OEM remote, are you a JP1 user, why don't you learn and decode the OEM remote with your 8811, etc.etc.

OK, makes sense.

After reading that section and seeing no specific advise about the Polaroid DVP-500 posted here, I decided that I should try learning some codes from the original remote.

I can't seem to get it to work. The procedure works up to the rapidly flashing LED after pressing the L1 key. While it is rapidly flashing, I press the EJECT key, say, on the original while holding them head-to-head separated by two inches. I never see the confirming double flash. Ignoring that problem, I held SETUP to lock it in and tried it. It doesn't work and IR doesn't see it.

Any idea what might be wrong?

Do all remotes send out their IR signal as long as the key is pressed? It occurred to me that it is possible that the original remote might only send the signal for a short time. To test this, I held my hand over the remote, pressed POWER and then removed my hand. The DVD did not turn on. I tried pressing the original key many times instead of holding it during learning, but that didn't work either.

The few Polaroid players I have ran across here use the 0830 code that's in the 6131. It is not in the 8811 though. So build yourself an upgrade with nec1 protocol, device 64 and test efc 119 for power. If that powers on the player I will learn the 0830 code from my 6131 for you.

Oh yeah... The reason you are not getting good learn is likely week batteries in one remote or another.

But I have no idea how to build an NEC1/64 upgrade. I looked around the files section and saw nothing. Can you give me a hint?

BTW I will not have access to the DVD player until next weekend.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Get back to you next weekend.

I set the device number in RM and copied the NEC1 protocol 0830 over to IR. I don't see the device number in IR which caused my initial confusion.

That didn't work. Too bad.

But I did discover that the Polaroid DVD DVP-500 will respond to the 1020 upgrade that URC sent me. The few buttons that do something do things unrelated to what they are supposed to do, but the DVD player DOES respond.

That upgrade, DVD 1020, has:

Protocol: NEC2
Protocol ID: 00 5A
Device Number: 1
Sub Device: 255
Parm: 0
Fixed Data: 00 7F 00

I tried learning from the original using another URC-8811. That worked. So the first 8811 was bad. That is the third, of eight, bad remotes.

So I'm all set up now.

That seems like an awfully high error rate. Have you tried fresh batteries and/or resetting those remotes to see if it helps?

All remotes were new, so they had fresh batteries.

What do you mean by "reset". They were all repeatedly loaded afresh from IR. Does that constitute a "reset"?

It couldn't hurt to try another set of batteries. Just because they come from a sealed package doesn't make them "fresh".

Also, make sure the OEM remote has "fresh" batteries since your 3 out of 8 error rate would lead me to believe the OEM remote could be the culprit.

I tried two sets of batteries.

The other two failing 8811s failed in different ways. One wouldn't connect to the PC. The second would, but wouldn't operate any device. And we all know about the third.
