SA 8300HD DVR upgrade question
Hi guys I found the upgrade int he files section but it is for the 9910 remote. I want to try to see if I can work something up with the 2117. Any1 know if I can use that upgrade on the 2117? I was under the impression that upgrades where not remote specific.

Uhh... yeah.
If I sound (appear) a bit befuddled, it's because with 74 posts, one would assume you're relatively familiar with the JP1 tools, and as one of the primary purposes of the tools is to allow you to take an upgrade designed for one remote and tailor it for your remote.
So open that upgrade in either KM or RM, and on the first worksheet (tabbed page), select the remote for which you want that upgrade to be made. Modify the button assignments to your taste, and copy over the device (and possibly protocol) upgrade(s) into IR.

uhm okay. I have been away for a while and sometimes I forget things. But I have never downloaded an rmdu file so I can't open this in KM which I am able to do with all the other upgrades since they are txt files.
*EDIT* Oh wait I'm assuming it is a remote master file that's why. plus I was confused because I never downloaded a remote-specific upgrade so I Thought I might not be able to select my remote. Ughh now I have to learn remote master.

If it's the KM vs. RM thing that's throwing you, the 8300HD uses the same codes as all of the other SA cables boxes, so you could download one of those and program it using KM if you prefer.
As for the upgrade being for a specific remote, this is how they all are, but both KM and RM let you change the remote to whichever remote you are using.

OK, it's true that RMDU files are "new" in the large scheme of things, and although KM files can be opened in RM, the reverse is not true, but.. ALL upgrades, even in KM, are "remote-specific", so THAT's the part of your post that was confusing to me.maxse wrote:uhm okay. I have been away for a while and sometimes I forget things. To use RemoteMaster, in addition to downloading the RM zip file from its site, you have to download and install the Java Runtime environment - a free download, but still time-consuming to just get up and running with RM. RM, you will find, further uses button map files and remote image files in it's user-friendly layout page. Additionally, unlike KM, RM also requires the rdf files for the remotes that had previously only been used in IR, so there will be a little bit of setup time, and you will have to "point" RM to the location where your rdf files are stored.
