I didn't see a discrete on/off in the device upgrade file. I have read that discrete on/off is not possible with this dvd player, but I just wanted to confirm with you guys. Thanks again...

Maybe not, but have you tried certain possible workarounds:
(1) Does pressing "Play" cause it to power on? Then you have macros
Discrete On = "play"-"stop"
Discrete Off = "play"-"power"
(2) Does pressing "open/close" turn the unit on? If so, does powering it off make the tray close? Then you have macros
Discrete On = "open/close"-"open/close"
Discrete Off = "open/close"-"power"
You could conceivably embark on a code search (testing unassigned OBCs), but there's always a danger that you'll stumble upon some sort of "toal reset/mindwipe" code that may render your unit useless so you may be unwilling to take that risk, although I've heard of few such cases.
(3) Finally, in the absence of a discrete - either "real" or via workaround, you may wish to consider using ToadTog (requires the extender, readme is in the extender zip file).

I was afraid this was the case. That sucks. I guess that's what you get for a $60.00 dvd player.....whompus wrote:The toadtog is the only option for this player. It does have an open/close by holding down stop. But only open/close on the front panel will power it on not from the remote. I did a search for missing efc's and found none for my 642.

Well, I see two options:
(1) Convince yourself that the only time you'll ever watch a DVD is you have to manually walk up to the machine to insert a DVD, so it doesn't matter what your remote does, you can just power it up when you put a DVD in and power it down when you take a DVD out.
; or
(2) Take the plunge, and learn ToadTog - which really works pretty well, as long as you use ONLY the JP1 remote to power the player on or off )or ensure you always leave it in the state it was previously in when you physically manipulate it), because if you occassionally do it from the front panel, or using the OEM remote, then ToadTog will "lose track" of what state it's in. 8)
I vote for option (2)
