JP1 Remotes

I've noticed over the past day or so, from both home and work, that the site seems to be very slow responding. Since I've encountered it on two PC's in two different places, I thought I'd ask if anyone else was experiencing the same problem?

The site has been very slow for me as well. At home I'm connected through a cable modem (comcast). At work I'm connected at least in the building gige.

Accessing any of the forums takes up to a minute.

Lets cut Rob some slack here. I don't think the forum is slow just every other one we frequent is fast.

Not complaining,just got dsl and the site does take a little longer than most to load.All the great info here is worth the wait though!

Well, it seems to be MUCH better this morning. Perhaps simply this discussion "shamed it" into behaving!

Here's my workaround, which I use for alot of sites: I use the right-click "Open In New Window" option to open all the threads that I want to read, then by the time I'm done opening them all, the first one is usually ready to view, and by the time I'm done reading/replying to the first one, the second one is ready, etc.

No theory on why this forum suddenly became so much slower?

Also, I always use Firebird's middle click for slow links. That opens in another tab of the same browser without switching to it, which makes it much easier to open a bunch of slow pages, and see by the tab titles which are done (before switching to them).

BUT, trying that with this forum since it became slow gives me an new problem I've never seen before. The operation times out if I launch the action by middle click. If I launch by ordinary click it is very slow (LONGER than the timeout takes) but succeeds.

I've no idea what's going on over at iPowerweb, the guys that host this site, but I gotta tell ya, I 'm about ready to move to a new ISP!

I've been experiencing the same slowness too, and have been watching the performance for a few days; lately it's improved a bit but it seems it's becoming slow again

To me it looks like all items on all pages are fast except for the banner ads. Rob, I'm not sure if the ISP keeps the ads on a different (slower) server but if that's the case, it might be quite easy to move them somewhere else...

Also, the forum software doesn't allow for caching on any page: META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache" (probably for the ads and constant updates of all threads)

Ads might be it. But they never were slow before.
It's now difficult to get in during the day, if not impossible
I noticed that ipowerweb uses 3 ports when you just sit reading. Switching between posts makes the computer really busy - what does it need 8-10 ports for? To send ads? I'm not really sure how to read this stuff, but the slowness might be related to so many things being sent out or something.

When I clicked submit to post this message, there must have been 20 lines in TCPview process/ports list for a few moments.

Once I can figure out how to backup and download the databases and then restore them on my new site, I'll move the site over to my godaddy account and everything will run a lot smoother.

Faster than some of the UK forums (fora?) for me today.
