IR thinks my URC-8910 is a URC-7550

I just bought a URC-8910 and a premade JP1 cable. I'm new to this JP1 stuff, but I'm a computer engineer, so I'm pretty comfortable with playing with this kind of stuff.

Here is my problem:

When I do "Download from Remote" using IR.exe, it incorrectly thinks my remote is a URC-7550.

I changed the filename of the 8910's RDF file to give it the same prefix as the 7550's file and now things *appear* to be working better. Why am I having this problem to begin with? Did I do something wrong?

Thanks!

You should save the .ir file from downloading from your remote. Some of the other experts might want to see it later.

Then I suggest doing the manufacturer reset on the remote (Rob posted instructions somewhere). Then try that download again.

I've never heard of a symptom like that. But my first guess is someone had that 8910 before you and via JP1 or other method put something strange into the eeprom.

There are two possibilities here...

a) Someone at the factory accidentally loaded the 7550 image into the remote, or the EEPROM chip was pre-loaded with the 7550 image when it was installed

or

b) They accidentally installed a 7550 MCU processor in this remote.

I think (a) is more likely. If this is the case, all you need to do is a full factory reset and IR will recognize your remote properly.

If it's (b), you will need to create a new RDF based on the 7550 RDF, that reflects where the functions really show up on the 8910. You will have to figure that out by experimentation.

I did a factory reset using the instructions in the forum and now it works correctly. Thanks guys!
