JP1 Remotes

hi, i've searched around but i can't find any threads about this-

i have a non-learning JP1 remote that i would like to teach some seemingly rare codes. (medion lcd tv and GE air conditioner) i have a USB-UIRT and it seems possible there might be a way to get codes sent to the PC via the UIRT and plug them into the JP1 remote.

is this possible with currently available software?

The cheapest and easiest option would be for you to pick up a JP1 learning remote to use for decoding purposes. I have the URC-8811 available for $20 which would be perfect for this purpose.

ugh- that seems to be a better remote than the more expensive 6131 i just picked up... that's what i get for rushing

If you have any kind of Ir capture or learning software for that UIRT that stores learned signals into a file, I could probably help you figure out how to decode some signals from that file: First capture some known signals (I typically use TV/0156 for that because it is a simple but fairly distinctive pattern) and use the results to deduce the file format, then use the deduced file format to interpret the unknown signals.

Assuming you have no software at all for capturing remote codes via your USB-UIRT, I don't have any either.

We have better tools and support here for using an 8811 as Rob suggests, than for CaptureIR, and you could use the 8811 without soldering anything. But if you can do a little soldering, the captureIr hardware is cheaper and better (for that purpose) than an 8811, and we'll manage to provide enough support.
