Summary:
I've read the JP1 beginner documents and the readme for the extender I'm using but I can't figure out how to create an extender macro for my remote.

History:
I'm pretty new to JP1, I've used IR to add some discrete video codes to my remote, but some of the stuff I tried to add didn't work (audio mode, setup, etc. for my receiver). I want to start experimenting with my device buttons since HT mode macros are why I started looking into JP1. I've downloaded the extender .zip file, and extinstall.exe and followed the installation instructions. I didn't see any error messages when I ran the extender installation so I assume it worked.

Equipment:
Remote - Atlanta DVR/PVR 5-Device
CableBox - SA 8300HD
Receiver - Onkyo TX-SR702
TV - Sony KV-32HS420
DVD - Toshiba POS

PROBLEM:
From the readme for the Atlanta DVR 1k extender it seems that the first step to creating a macro is setting the devices that the volume, transport, and other buttons affect by using "_v","_t", and "_o". The problem is I don't know where to type these (or their Hex codes) in. The macros tab in IR only lets me pick from the original remote buttons, I don't see where to type in hex codes. Did I miss something in one of the tutorials? Where do I enter extender macros?

Please post a copy of your .IR file in the Diagnosis Area so we can see exactly what you've done.

It sounds like the extender isn't installed, because the buttons you list become available once it has been installed.

If the extender install worked correctly merging the extender and the original configuration then there should be device macros in the macro tab.

If you want to add special protocol macros go to the special protocols tab in IR. IR has been updated since the extender readme and in most cases you do not need to enter hex codes.

If you are still having problems upload you IR file to the diagnostics file area and put a link to it here so we can get a look at it.

I used fresh copies of all the extender files and ran through the installation process again. The link above is what I end up with after running install.bat (which I guess calls extinstall.exe).

Seems like something is going wrong in the installation because there are no macros in the macros tab, and there are no buttions like "TV_V" available to add to a new macro.

Don't use install.bat to install the extender.

Make sure the unextended and extended RDFs are both in the RDF directory IR is using ( File -> Set Directory -> RDF Path...).
Make sure extinstall.exe in the ExtInstall path IR is uisng ( File -> Set Directory -> ExtInstall Path...)

Then use File -> Merge Using ExtInstall

Thanks Greg!

I had the RDF folder set wrong. Seems to work fine now.
