JP1 cable doesn't fit MX-500

I ordered and received a USB JP1 cable from one of the recommended sites. It has a 6 pin female connector. My MX-500 has 7 pins in the battery compartment, and the cable can't be attached without possibly breaking a piece off of the side of the cable's connector. Am I missing something stupid?

Thanks!

Yeah. The MX-500 is NOT a JP1 remote.

JP1 remotes are manufactured by UEI, and marketed (in general) under the One-for-All and Radio Shack labels. There are also a bunch of cable and satellite operators that use UEI remotes, but the MX-500 is completely different, manufactured by a different company, uses a different processor, and is NOT JP1 capable.

MX-500 owners wanting to avail themselves to some of the resources such as programability from a PC and use of device codes etc. in the JP1 group get a JP1 compatible remote, such as One-For-All, and the USB cable you have. I am currently struggling with doing all that. It is not easy, but I'm making progress. The difficulty is you have to learn about TWO complex remotes, including features not documented in any user's manual. In addition, you have to learn how to use two pieces of software, IR (a Windows program) and KM (an Excel spreadsheet).

So, you have just part of what you need to start down this path.

Good luck.
