High codes into 7550

I have a JP1 cable on order.

My remote is a 2002 OFA model URC7550 (in OZ) which has worked well in past times.

I have contacted UE1 and obtained "codes" for some newer equipment viz Media Centre 2005 & a Panasonic projector.

These are HIGH code numbers between 1100 & 1510 for which the rom in the 7550 was not originally programmed according to code list supplied.

Is upgrading the rom done by RemoteMaster or one the other programs mentioned here or is that a different process ?

My thoughts are to try this before venturing into full JP1 mods.

Thanks in advance.

Some "high" codes might already be in the ROM (like VCR/1162). When you got the new codes from UEI, did they load them over the phone? When they do this, what they are actually doing is placing the new codes in the EEPROM, which is exactly what we do here in the JP1 world also.

We use KM or RM to format the codes to suit our tastes, then we copy the upgrade over to a program called IR.exe which we use to load them into our remotes. If your remote has a modem onboard, you can use the WAV file feature in IR.exe to load codes yourself even without a JP1 cable.

I would add that, without a JP1 cable, there is no way for you to save and subsequently restore the upgrades that UEI has already provided you over the phone, so any upgrading you do with RM, IR and IRtoWAV will overwrite those upgrades you got from UEI.

I would get a JP1 cable and as the FIRST order of business save your current EEPROM image so you can restore those upgrades (and add to them/modify them) when needed.

Thanks for your prompt info.

Sorry I neglected to advise that UEI replied to my emails in like mannner and proffered 3 choices for MCE - 1133, 1272 & 1328 plus 1310, 1410 & 1510 for the PT-AE500.

Is their any limitation of the BUTTON choice one may use for a Device eg could I use VCR or SAT or CD for the MCE 2005 PC ?

They should have indicated in their reply what "kind" of codes these are (ie, VCR, SAT, etc). If you want to program a setup code to a device button of a different type, you first need to "mode map" that button using the 992 command (the process is described in your manual).
