MET Cyq've PV-2400i / Keymat KEDR0001 / H&B DR900

Post by SLAM-ER »

Device: MET Cyq've PV-2400i / Keymat KEDR0001 / H&B DR900 (using H&B firmware)
Type of device: DVD+R Recorder
JP1 Remote model: URC7560 (OFA-6 europe)
JP1 user: I made one years ago, so could make one again if necessary, so yes
Still have original remote: No
Checked the file section: Yes
Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C): Yes
Partially working setup code: internet download of H&B from OFA site code DVD/VCR/1235
Learning remote question: Could be, but dont have original remote to copy.

Hi, I just got an ex-demo unit of the above DVD Recorder (models are various clones) but it is missing the original remote. I know my OFA JP1 fitted remote (OFA7560) will be able to work it, but I need some more codes/help.

I went on OFA's internet wav download and downloaded the H&B DVD codes (since the other brands weren't listed) and the 1235 code seems to work for the basic functions (see below) but some of the necessary functions are still not available. I cant get into the menus, cant tune in the tuner etc, also cant erase the DVD, etc.

These are the keys on the original remote (from the manual)
Y=Works, N=not present but wanted, X=not present but dont care/need

Y-ON/OFF Turn the DVD Recorder on/off
X-SUBTITLE Toggle subtitles on/off during playback
N-ERASE Toggle between Title erase and Disc erase
X-OPEN/CLOSE Open/close the disc tray
N-EDIT Edit current title name, applicable only for DVD+RW discs or an unfinalized DVD+R disc
N-PROGRAM Memorize your favorite channel up to 168 channels
X-DISPLAY Display the title, chapter number and elapsed time
during playback
Y-MUTE Mute volume; press again to undo
Y-REC Start recording current source
N-QUALITY Choose recording quality
N-SOURCE Choose recording source
N-HIDE Insert chapter/hide newly inserted chapter
N-RETURN Close on-screen menus
N-MENU Return to on-screen main menu
N-ENTER Confirm/enter settings/commands
Y-PAGE UP
Y-PAGE DOWN
Y-Move up/down in on-screen menus
Y-LEFT
Y-RIGHT
N-Exit/change settings in on-screen menus
N-TITLE Display the title menu from DVD discs
Y-TV/DVD Select TV or DVD player as the source
Y-PLAY Start disc or incoming AV signal playback
Y-PAUSE Pause incoming AV signal during playback/recording
X-STEP Display video signal frame-by-frame during playback
Y-STOP Stop incoming AV signal during playback/recording
Y-PREV Go to the previous available chapter of current Title during playback
Y-NEXT Go to the next available chapter of current Title
during playback
Y-REW Rewind AV signal during playback
Y-FF Fast forward AV signal during playback
Y-1—0 Enter channel number to select
Y-+10 Increase the number display by 10
N-CLEAR Clear text/number from selected entry field
Y-CHANNEL Move up/down through available channels
Y-VOLUME Increase/decrease volume
X-NTSC/PAL Choose NTSC or PAL signal
N-SETUP Access the DVD Recorder’s SETUP menu
X-AUDIO Select a different language or sound track during DVD playback if supported
X-ANGLE Display Camera Angle menu during DVD playback if supported
X-ZOOM Zoom in menu during DVD playback if supported
X-SHUFFLE Play random titles on discs
X-REPEAT 1/ALL Repeat title/chapter and elapsed time during playback
X-REPEAT A-B Play repeatedly between 2 chosen points in the disc; press again to cancel

I would be happy to learn the last few (13!) codes but I cant find an original remote to copy them from.

If I had the protocol name and device info I could probably help, but I don't have any information on DVD/1235 nor on those brands.

That information is easy to extract from the upgrade you have in your 7560. It also could be extracted directly from the .wav file. You can give us the info we need to help you, in any one of following ways:

Put the .wav file in the diagnosis area
Put the .ir file of a download_from_remote (after the wav was loaded) in the diagnosis area
Import the raw upgrade into RM and post the protocol and device info and a few of the working command numbers.

So you have a partially working setup code which has been uploaded as an upgrade (is not a built-in setup code present in the remote's ROM) which you uploaded via WAV file.

Questions:
(1) Did you create this upgrade using KM or RM?
(2) Did you then use IR to add this upgrade and use IR's recently-added capability to create the WAV file you played?
(3) If the WAV upgrade was downloaded from the OFA site, do you have a copy of the WAV file? or did you do it over the phone and have no copy?
I believe the answer to (1) and (2) is "no", so there are several paths it seems to me:
(a) Wait to see if somebody happens to have the advanced codes you seek, and try to manually add them, hoping that they use the same device setup code as your upgrade (could be a LONG wait);
(b) upload your wav file to the diagnosis area and post a link to it here, asking one of the experts to decode the WAV file into normal KM/RM upgrade form. Then you can build an upgrade and upload it via IRtoWAV (in IR), searchtesting all of the unused EFCs/OBCs for all of your missing and obscure functions;
(c) Build/buy a JP1 cable and download your "wav-uploaded" upgrade from the remote and try to reverse-engineer it from IR to KM/RM, identify which EFCs/OBCs are unused and create upgrades to test the unused EFCs/OBCs.

Have fun.

If you had a JP1 cable, I would ask you to download the memory so we could see what DVD/1235 looks like, as that would tell us whether this setup code accepts advanced codes.

As it is, the chances are very good that it uses the NEC1 protocol with a device code of 0, which would mean that it does accept advanced codes.

Therefore, I would suggest that you print out the following 2-page worksheet, and test each EFC to see what it does:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/worksheet2.shtml
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/worksheet2-b.shtml

These codes are presented in OBC order, which means that when you find one working code, you'll probably find a bunch more close after. The number in BOLD is the number that you want to test.

If you don't know how to test an advanced code (aka EFC), read this...
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/advanced.shtml

Once you've completed the list and found all the missing functions, you can program the 13 or so buttons that you need using key moves (ie, the 994 function).

In the meantime, I will see if I can get the list of EFCs for this setup code by other means.

I don't think he can do that (yet) as he has no JP1 cable (yet) :wink: .

OK I have uploaded the wav file i used to upgrade to here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2149

I will make a JP1 cable today as it looks like I'm gonna need it, also after work I will try the advanced codes thing as well.

Answers for Capn Trips Q's:
1) I did the internet upgrade from OFAs support website
2) Not sure what you mean (newbie sorry)
3) I have uploaded it (link above)

Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate it!!

Well, you indicated that you had a JP1 cable some time ago. I presumed that this implies you had (perhaps not CURRENT, but previous, at least) knowledge of some of the JP1 tools that exist to help one build an upgrade and communicate with the remote. Pretty basic among these are the IR.exe program and KeymapMaster (KM) Excel spreadsheet program.

What is a NEW feature of IR is that once you create your upgrade and set up all of your remote features and functionality the way you want it, IR no longer requires you to use a JP1 cable to upload to the remote. It can (in conjunction with the IR-to-WAV program, which you would also have to download) generate the WAV file that you can then play through your PC speakers and upload to your remote. Of course the down side is taht you cannot download FROM the remote. For this, you would still need a cable.

If, on the other hand you are completely unfamiliar with the JP1 tools like KM and IR, then you'd better start reading, since the cable alone ain't gonna do it. I refer you to the links at the bottom of any of Robman's posts, or surf over to the beginner forum and ponder the sticky posts there.

Good guess, but it turned out to be NEC1 protocol with a device code of 32 and SubDevice 221. I don't have data on any DVD with that subdevice code.

Yes, it does accept advanced codes so you can manually test EFC numbers even before getting JP1.

Like most DVDs this has its OBC numbers in the two ranges 0 through 31 and 64 through 95. The small numbers on that page are the OBC numbers and the large ones are EFC numbers. You want to test the EFC numbers corresponding to OBCs 0 through 31 and 64 through 95.

The ones already in your upgrade (so you've already tested them) are

OBC EFC Button
--------------------------
2 - 183 - REC{Yellow}
4 - 180 - setup menu (new)
6 - 182 - EXIT
8 - 053 - 8
9 - 057 - 9
11 - 059 - 7
12 - 052 - 5
13 - 056 - 6
14 - 054 - Power
15 - 058 - 4
16 - 117 - 2
17 - 121 - 3
19 - 123 - 1
21 - 120 - REW{TextOn}
22 - 118 - MUTE{Select}
24 - 245 - PAUSE{Hold}
27 - 251 - PLAY{TextOff}
28 - 244 - LEFT
29 - 248 - DOWN
30 - 246 - Menu
67 - 171 - VOL-{Color-}
68 - 164 - UP
69 - 168 - AUTO{Blue}
71 - 170 - 0
72 - 037 - RIGHT
73 - 041 - VOL+{Color+}
75 - 043 - +10{-/--}
77 - 040 - CH-{Bright-}
81 - 105 - CH+{Bright+}
85 - 104 - FFWD{Expand}
89 - 233 - STOP{Green}
92 - 228 - Select
93 - 232 - AV{Exit_20}

OK, thanks for the tip about advanced codes. I tried it before leaving for work this morning and found that code 4/180 is the setup menu which is a major accomplishment, now I can tune it and set up the main features, etc.

I found that Shift(magic)-Mute is the enter button, but after running the auto tuning it stopped working, now I can get into the menu, but not select anything!! Anyway I'll have another play tonight. I won’t make up a JP1 cable till I know I actually need it, as the advanced codes might be enough to get me going.

Yeah sorry Capn Trips, I was a newbie back then and that was at least 3yrs ago when I used the JP1 cable, so I can’t remember what I used, or how I did it as I have never tried it since then. I know it was hard to figure out back then and it didn’t have WAV support.

So thanks again you guys, your prompt and helpful responses are very much appreciated!!

I have a 7562 and the mute button on the 7560/7562 is a PITA. Suggest leaving its function as the mute button and assigning the Enter code to Auto(Blue) or other suitable button.

Later on you'll want to set VPT so the volume keys (including Mute) will work from any mode and you might find it easier with the Enter button on Blue. Of course, much later on, you'll want to try the extender and you can then use the Mute button as an Enter key once again but that's a different story.

Thanks again guys, I'm pretty much all up and running, and without even needing a JP1 cable.

I have figured out most of the advanced codes and have uploaded a doc here, in case anyone else needs it in the future.

Thanks Rob, you rock! I also found that 20/116 is NEXT which I didnt have on my spreadsheet.

Now my next question is is there a tutorial for using RM/IR/IR2WAV to generate a nice upgrade that has the keymoves etc that I made using RM?

I got it done in RM, I copied the data from the 'device upgrade code' box on the output tab, and pasted it into IR, then exported to wav and tried to upload it to the remote but it wont take it. What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like what's likely wrong is your last step. i.e. you're not placing the remote in "receive" mode before playng the wav file. Try the following (this is for the 9960 Kameleon):
long press of setup, press other, then enter the 997
and then play your wav file.

No, I am doing that, the red light comes on and flashes off then on for a sec, then stays off, like it doesnt accept the code. It doesnt really matter as I manually added all the advanced codes to buttons, but it would be good to know how to do it properly...

Thanks
