HD Tivo owners.... are you using 0618?
Hi, I was reading about a problem one person was experiencing with his HD-Tivo being slow to respond to his JP-1 remote...
However, they never mentioned which codes they were starting with...
I was wondering are you folks with HD Tivo's using the 0618 code in your JP1 remote?
Thanks,
Steve

All Tivos, except the Sony and Toshiba models, respond to the same signal set (which corresponds to the VCR/0618 and SAT/1142 setup codes).

Hi,
I just bought an HR10-250 HD dtivo, and indeed it doesn't work well at all with the URC-6131 extender. The HR10-250 works perfectly with the original Tivo remote, but it ignores about half of the commands from the URC-6131. It acts as if the batteries are low, but they aren't. If I hold the remote right up to the Tivo box, it recognizes the commands pretty well.
Any ideas how to fix this? I love my URC-6131 and am dying to start using it again.
Thanks.

Are you saying that it does work with the URC-6131 WITHOUT the extender? Are you 100% positive that you are using good batteries?utmba95 wrote:I just bought an HR10-250 HD dtivo, and indeed it doesn't work well at all with the URC-6131 extender.

I finally got around to trying the 6131 WITHOUT the extender, and it doesn't work all of the time either. This is a REALLY strange deal. About 75% of the time the URC 6131 works fine, just like the original remote. However, sometimes the TIVO gets into a state where it ignores between 50% and 100% of the button presses from the 6131. During that time it responds perfectly fine to the original remote. I have two 6131s so I programmed one for the extender and one without. It was ignoring both of them last night, but the original remote worked fine. (Hit page up on first 6131 - nothing; hit page up on second 6131 - nothing; hit page up on OEM remote and it pages up). I cannot correlate when it doesn't work to any activity such as recording, etc. I had to watch TV for 3 hours before it got into that mode.
This is really annoying. I realize it's not a "JP1" question, but I'm dying to get this thing working again.

If the original remote always works and the 6131 only sometimes works, then it is a JP1 question because there's something not right in the 6131s programming, but I have no idea what that might be because it seems to be working for everyone else.

Here's another test. I used my URC-6800 to learn some buttons from both the 6131 and the original Tivo remote. Page up and page down read back exactly the same except that the frequency is off by a little. However, FF and PLAY have some differences. Next time it gets into the bad state I'll try playing the learned signals to see which ones work.
Is this a significant difference? BTW, I've searched the net and there are others complaining of poor performance with this remote on the HR10-250 HD Tivo.

The only difference that might be significant is the lead out time, but even with there, the 4k difference is only 10% off, which should be within the acceptable margin of error.
Here are the comparisons...

URC +8992 -2272 +552 -98350
org +9002 -2266 +550 -96716
Looking at the protocol code, I see that the lead-out time is defined using the "OFF as total" option. Maybe that's the problem, maybe the HR10-250 HD Tivo uses a fixed leadout OFF time.
In case you want to try experimenting with the code yourself, here's a PB file for it...

Could you learn all the buttons from the HR10-250 remote and post the resulting IR files. Also, please confirm that the learned buttons work just as well as the original remote.

So I just add this protocol and change KM from using Tivo (Advanced) to Tivo (Official)?
I did get the Tivo in the bad state and verified that the commands learned from the original remote worked.
I tried learning these commands many times because they didn't fit the pattern of the others, but they still look weird. I checked that ENTER does not repeat on the original remote - one blink and that's it.

Do you still sell EPROMs? I may need another one.

I assumed that you were using the official so that's I was basing my analysis on. It might have ben a good idea to mention which protocol you were using from the outset.
But regardless, yes, you would need to switch KM to the official protocol and copy over the upgrade as normal, then copy the protocol from this thread over to IR also.
But before you test the protocol that I just wrote, you should test the official upgrade without adding a protocol, just to confirm that it acts the same way as the old "Advanced" protocol (which I need to try and get deleted).
If you confirm that the official protocol also has problems and that my protocol fixes these problems, I will forward my code onto UEI so they add it to their database.

Rob, this new protocol works much better for my HR10-250.
I just tested with 2 URC-6131s. One has the updated protocol, one does not (it uses the builtin protocol). The one without the update works only sporadically, while the one with the update works consistently.
I've also not noticed any issue uses the updated protocol with my older DSR6000.
