Hello,

since 2 years i use a JP1 parallel port interface with the IC 74HCT125.

Now i bought an "USB to Centronics Converter Cable".

*******************************************
Model: viewcon VEN12 (Prolific "IEEE-1284 Controller")

*******************************************

I have got two Printer Ports now:
=================================
(Control Panel \ System \ Device Manager \ Com and Lpt devices)
LPT1 03BC (the old Printer Port)
LPT2 0278 (USB)

I changed the interface settings in the IR.exe menu to 0278:

Menu\Interface\Parallel ---> 0278

Using the two cables (USB cable + 74HCT125 cable) i tried to download some data from the remote.

-But I've got no response from the interface.

Why can't i download some data from the remote when using the
USB converter cable?

name/pin (36 pin centronics connector)
======================================
D0 2
D1 3
D2 4
busy/S7 11
Gnd 19-29

The link you provided shows a printer CABLE, not a printer PORT. In other words, it's designed to connect directly to a parallel printer. It's not meant to provide a standard physical parallel port.

How are you connecting the JP1 interface to that USB cable? The JP1 cable should be using a 25 pin D-sub connector, not a 36 pin Centronics. Are you using some sort of adapter?

Also, what exactly is a "74HCT125 cable"?

A parallel JP1 interface cable with the IC 74HCT125.

I soldered 5 connections (5 wires):

centronics side / DB25 side
============================
D0 2 ---> D0 2
D1 3 ---> D1 3
D2 4 ---> D2 4
busy/S7 11 ---> 11
Gnd 19-29 ---> 18-25

OK... I don't think I ever saw that design before.

I'm not certain, but IIRC those USB-Parallel cables provide built-in printer-specific circuitry. Since the JP1 interface "bit bangs" the parallel port (at the hardware level), it's likely, as Tommy points out in the thread Greg linked to, that these converters won't work for JP1.
