This isn't directly a JP1 question but I didn't want to ask it at remotecentral because I wanted a more focused response among people who already know why the 15-2116 was so great. So my question: what is the best replacement now out there for people who were devoted to the 15-2116? _________________ Alan |

I have a 2117 (2116 with RF extender) and have migrated to the HTPro (which is the same as the URC-9910 or URC-8910 with RF).
I find them similar in capability and support (both have well-developed and widely-used extenders). I believe the 8910/9910 have a few more buttons, but essentially they are similar.
Some like the newer Kameleons (9960 and 9960B01) but I never got used to the screen/buttons.
In terms of availability, UEIC is no longer making ANY of these remotes as they have shifted to the JP1.2's but the 8910 and 9910 are regularly available on eBay and from Robman and a few other vendors.
As JP1.2 support has crossed the threshhold to near-mainstream here in recent weeks, you may want to investigate some of the more current production models, about which I cannot comment. But you'll have to build a new cable, as I haven't seen anybody selling the JP1.x cables yet. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

Thanks for the answer, capn trips. I've been out of the loop so long I hadn't even realized there's now a successor to jp1. I guess it's time for me to read up on that to see what I might be missing... _________________ Alan |

Just FYI, the URC-8910 and URC-9910 have not been discontinued yet, probably because they haven't come up with a similar JP1.2 remote yet.
As you some here will recall, there was a shortage of URC-9910 remotes a while back (I think because there was a problem getting one of the parts back at the factory) but then after a while they re-appeared everywhere.
Personally, I think getting a JP1 remote is a better idea than a JP1.2 remote at the present time because the bulk of the JP1 expertise is still in the "JP1" arena, but eventually more of us will get up to speed with the new platform. When that day comes, there are alot more possibilities with the JP1.2 remotes because we could (in theory) totally replace the firmware with something that we've written ourselves. _________________ Rob
