Does anyone know if I go with the JP1 in my RCA RCU810 that it will eliminate the random clock reset, the remote reverting back to the TV setting...
JUST CURIOUS...
Thanx
Bob

There were a few threads on that subject quite a while ago.

JP1 by itself does not help nor hurt that problem.

To correct the problem you need to connect the CPU's reset signal to a plus voltage signal.

The two points you need to connect are both on the six pin connector for JP1, so if you DON'T use JP1 you can just solder a jumper between them (as described in one of those old threads).

If you do use JP1 those two pins of the JP1 connector must be connected when you're not using the JP1 cable and disconnected when you are using it. The cleanest way to accomplish that is to wire the connection into a connector similar to the end of a JP1 cable and plug that into the JP1 header whenever you're not using the JP1 cable.

The CPU reset signal is left floating (not connected to anything) in all of these remotes. There should be no problem with that. Floating or positive voltage should act equally well as the non reset state (you need to ground the signal to trigger a reset). But for reasons unknown, the CPUs in some of the 810's are super sensitive to electrical noise so that the reset signal can activate with nothing connected to it.

There's a lot of discussion to dig through in that thread (mainly because I initially had trouble believing the right answer).

If you only care about the answer, it is in the third to last post of that thread, which is:

Jumper pin 1 to pin 5 - one is reset, the other is vcc - your problems will be gone. If you use a removeable plug, then you can take it off to program your rcu using the jp1 interface.
