URC-6690

Any data on the Kameleon URC-6690 found at Best Buy? I don't see any info in the forums.

It's the 6 device version of the URC-9960. It is JP1 compatible if you use a pogo-pin adapter or solder in a 6-pin. I forget whether it uses the same RDF as the 9960 or whether it needs a new one though. We haven't seen too many of them around these parts yet (pilgrim).

Robman, Thanks for the reply. I am curious about the RDFs and extenders. I might pick one up to play with. If I do, I will post the results.

Are you up to the task of soldering in a 6-pin connector yourself? If not, you'll need to pick up a pogo-pin adapter (if you don't already have one).

Actually the URC-6960 is the 6-device version of the -9960. Not to be confused with the similarly named URC-6690! Not sure which one Best Buy is selling, but if it really is the URC-6690, it is a hybrid (using both hard buttons AND a small Kameleon screen). Neither RM or KM seems to support it, last I checked.
BTW, the URC-6690 claims to be able to learn 50-70 codes. This is a substantial jump from the paltry 16-25 of most previous OFA favorites. It's quite possible this number of codes will allow you to get by without a JP1 cable entirely.

Thanks for that Ace, I have noticed ads recently for the hybrid Kameleon. As this is a new UEI remote, there's a very good chance that it uses the new flash chip and is therefore not JP1 compatible at all. However, it might have a modem onboard for telephone upgrades.

Good point about the flash chip. Too bad -- I haven't seen the -6690 in the flesh, but the idea is interesting. Having a smaller screen would probably help battery life too.
URC6960 is it or isn't it that it the question...

Yes, the URC-6960 (as opposed to the URC-6690, which is the subject of this thread) *is* JP1 compatible. It's simply the 6-dev version of the URC-9960.
Like all Kameleons, it has 6 pads instead of a 6-pin so you'll either need to delicately solder a 6-pin onto the pads or you'll need a pogo-pin adapter.
