* When using VCR/0162 & VCR/1162 pressing just about any button is equivalent to PLAY. VCR/0454 is similar except the number buttons do nothing and most of the other buttons are equivalent to PLAY.

Can anyone suggest a setup code for the NOVO DVR-480 sold in Australia. One of the circuit boards has "Arlink company limited" on it and a Google search revealed that it's a rebadged Arlink DR-747 (aka Arlink RW-747) which is/was sold in some parts of Europe (eg. Germany) in 2004/05.

It's an inexpensive Chinese manufactured DVD recorder that uses the LSI Logic DMN8600mk kit. Probably rebadged as other brand names as well so here are a couple of smallish images (more at http://home.bigblue.net.au/darren33/nov ... VR-480.htm). Perhaps someone will recognise it?

The VCR/0162 (etc) codes are probably a red herring. While they might give one of the experts an idea of what sort of signal they're looking for, I'm pretty sure that it's just a coincidence that that Panasonic VCR code happens to cause a reaction. The fact that every VCR/0162 button works as PLAY tends to confirm that. Panasonic signals have a long data portion that is fixed for all buttons, so it's not surprising that every button invokes the same function on your DVD player.

Do they sell this player in B&M stores locally? If so, you should take your URC-7560 remote down to one of the stores and see if they'll let you learn some of the signals from the original remote. You won't have enough learning memory to capture all of the buttons, so I'd suggest just capturing the first 3 numeric buttons rather than all 10 of them as we can probably guess the rest of them. The learned signals will tell you what protocol and device codes to use, plus you'll have the OBCs for the buttons that you were able to capture. To get the rest of the buttons, you would either need to make another trip down to the store, or you can experiment by trying any un-accounted for OBCs to see what they do.

Thanks for the reply, Rob. This DVD recorder seems only to be sold online (and might be discontinued already) so no chance of learning the signals from a B&M store.

I decided to try the files in the Yahoo DVD codes section and to my surprise got some useful results from the ones for the Coby DVD recorder and the RJ Tech and Zensonic DVD players. They all use NEC1 protocol so that was a good starting place.

Through trial and error I now have OBCs for all the original remote buttons. I just have to decide which of these are useful enough to be mapped to buttons on the URC-7562 and then I'll upload a file to the Yahoo codes section.

I'm guessing that the Coby files that worked where the ones for the 215 and 218 models, because these use the very common NEC1 protocol with a device code of 0, as do the RJ and Zen* files.

Almost all of the cheap import DVD players use this combination. I believe this combo is officially a "test" code, so manufacturers don't need to pay a licensing fee to use it, which is why it's so prevelant now. I've just decoded the remotes for 6 Nova brand DVD players, and 5 of them also use this combo.

Please post your OBCs or your upgrade file (and post a link to it here) as soon as you can so we can document this player. John Fine has created a spreadsheet that cross-references all the known players that use this code so we can try and keep track of them.
