IR parallel port configuration problem

Post by chinoverme1 »

Hi:

My parallel port that's included in my mainboard got damaged so I had to put a PCI card parallel port.
How can I find the Parallel Port Address (Hex) so I can configure it in IR?
Thanks in advance

It also appears as NetMos 9805 PCI Parallel Port. I checked in resources and it uses IRQ 10.

Did you try the three "normal" addresses, i.e. all the choices in IR except "other"?

You aren't likely to do any harm by trying them, there's nothing going to be using those addresses other than a parallel port.

3BC should be the address for LPT3.

Check the system BIOS to see that the on-board port is disabled, otherwise you may have problems with the OS hardware settings.

Also, is the add-in card able to be set to LPT1 (assuming the built-in port is disabled)? That would leave the address as 378.

Well, LPT1 is 3BC in my ThinkPad R51 running XP SP2. I forgot if these are the original IBM-PC style vs. IBM PS/2 style difference or just PnP allowing more combinations, but I'm sure the mapping is not 1:1 these days.

Go to Control Pannel > System (> Hardware: if XP) > Device Manager > Printer Port (LPT3) then the base I/O address is on the Resources tab.

I tried all three addresses in IR but it does'nt work. The LP1 is disabled. I opened Control Pannel > System (> Hardware: if XP) > Device Manager > Printer Port (LPT3) then the base I/O address is on the Resources tab and this the information:

This is for the device

D000 - D007
D400 - D407
D800 - D807
DC00 - DC07
E000 - E007
E400 - E40F

IRQ 10

This is for the port LPT3
D000 - D007
D400 - D407

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

It looks like the LPT3 is configured to use ECP, but the base I/O D000 isn't a value we come across so often. Can you try unchecking the "use automatic settings" check box and see if any of the configurations appear in the drop down list look what IR.exe supports?

You may also want to check the documents of your I/O card and see if you can configure it to allow "classic" parallel I/O addresses with its BIOS, DIP/jumper switches or a configuration utility.

BTW, what operating system are you using?

I'm using Windows XP SP2. I can´t uncheck "use automatic settings" because it´s in grey.

Thanks

You either aren't logged in with administrator rights, or there's a device conflict somewhere. You should check to see what's enabled/disabled in the BIOS settings on the motherboard.

I enabled LPT1 port in 378 and connected the JP1 cable in the parallel port of the mainboard which is damaged, and IR worked correctly. Apparently, this parallel port is damaged to use with printers but not with the JP1 cable.
Thanks everyone for all the valuable advise.
