Integra 4.5 codes for older URC 9800 ?

Post by bmorris »

OK, here is the standard header:

1. Device: Integra DTR 4.5 (Onkyo codes usually operate Integra devices)
2. Type of device: audio receiver
3. JP1 Remote model: URC-9800
4. JP1 user? No JP1 cable
5. Still have original remote? Yes
6. Checked the file section? Yes
7. Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
8. Partially working setup code? Tuner device code 0135
9. Learning remote question? See text below.

I have a 5 year old URC-9800 that works great. Can't say the same for my receiver, which just blew up. I replaced the reciever with a new Integra DTR 4.5. Now I can't make the URC-9800 operate the Integra. Specifically, I am missing a discrete OFF code and a discrete code which will select the DVD input. I've gone through each of the 256 possible device codes by hand with no luck. (And now I have sore thumbs!)

I tried learning these 2 codes, but still no joy. Without a JP1 cable, you can't "learn" to any key except the specfic learning keys 1L through 6L. The problem is that you can't use the learning keys in a macro.

My needs aren't sophisticated. All I want is an "ON" macro which sets everything to the right inputs, and an "OFF" macro so that (hopefully) the equipment doesn't get left on for weeks at a time (this is a vacation home). I've been well satisfied without a JP1 cable so far.

FWIW, the Integra remote (model RC-587M) has learning and macro capabilities, and also has a JP1 type header pin near the battery case. However, it won't operate my Mitsubishi VCR at all. And the instructions say it loses its memory when you change the batteries. Don't want to re-program it all the time!

I'm looking for the easiest way out here. Finding a code I can plug in to the old URC-9800 by hand is best. After that, what would be your opinion on getting a JP1 cable versus buying a newer remote that might have the right codes in it? Learning curve to get it up an working is the major factor. I'm past the point of enjoying these kinds of geeky pursuits anymore (sigh), but I'm glad there are people out there who still love it.

Thanks.

The code you need for discrete OFF and dvd commands is AUD 0842, but it isn't in the 9800. i used the 9800 for 4 years, and still have 4 of them, replace it. The only remotes that have AUD code 0842 preset is the urc-6131 & 9960.

AUD/0842 is NEC1:210:108, so a little upgrade via JP1 should do the trick. But I agree with you regarding the replacement of the 9800. The learning section in this remote is using a second mcu and a second eeprom. To read the learned signals, you have to modify the remote with soldering etc.

Is there a need for the RF capability, the 9910 would be a good choice.
