Just don't solder the thing!
I have an RCU810 and was afraid of opening it up. What I do, is simply hold the 6-pin header into the little holes, and wiggle the thing a little bit until I can download or upload the information.
True, it might require a few attempts, but now i'm used to it and it usually works the first time. To completely reprogram my RCU810 took me 4 hours (I was a total beginner to JP1) and I had to hold the thing in about 20-30 times. Not a big deal.
Just a thought for those who don't wish to crack their remote up.

I programmed my urc-6800 that way many times before a friend soldered in a header for me. Once you know which angle to press the connection at for good contact, it is easy and reliable.
But IIRC an RCU810 has a membrane on the far side of the PCB that could be punctured by the pins. I'm not convinced your idea is as safe with an RCU810 as it is with the URC-6800. The pins usually can be adjusted within the plasic (of the 6-pin header) so that one side is very short. That might improve the safety. |
