Which brand/type cable to get?

How is a newbie suppose to decide which brand/web site to get a jp1 cable from?
Besides the slight price difference both sites mentioned on this board seem good.
*shrug*

Is there a list of remotes that typcically need the deluxe jp1 cable? (the one with the circuit board).

Both vendors are totally reliable, so just pick one.

As for which type of cable to get, if your PC has a parallel port (ie, the LPT1 printer port) the cheapo Simple cable will almost certainly suffice.

The Ultra cable is available for people that have problems getting the Simple to work.

If you don't have a parallel port, pick either a Serial or USB cable.
