How to connect JP1 interface to remote?

Why are there no pictures that show you how to connect the JP1 interface to the remote?

Will I fry the remote if I plug it in backwards?

No damage will be done if connected backwards. Usually the connector is oriented so that pin 1 is at the lower left. What remote are you using?
