I am real new to this, and not much of a hardware guy, but thought I would take a shot at building my own cable. Well it's done, but when I run IR and test it using check interface I get a message saying no response from interface. I have checked the hardware and believe I have it all correct, checked continuity on all relevant pins and that is OK, tried all 3 standard port addresses on 2 PCs and still no joy.

What am I missing here? Probably something stupid, but it is escaping me...

Did you check it while connected to a remote? Did you try with and without batteries in the remote? Are the parallel ports enabled in the BIOS of your PCs?

Just a wild stab but....
Which remote are you using? A buddy of mine ran into this with a URC-8811 and it turned out to be that the cable I made was touching one of the plastic sides of the back plate when plugged into the JP1 connectors...all we did was nudge it to the side so that there was space between the connector and the side of the back plate and that worked.

Hey Chimp,

It's pretty hard to offer suggestions when you don't mention which type of cable you built, what instructions you followed, what remote you're using, or any other details.
