Extender available for Atlas 5 DVR remote?

Post by n2deep »

I have done a lot with JP1 on this remote over the last few days and have it working well. However, my wife asked the question - "how come when I press the DVD button it doesn't select the DVD audio and change the TV? Good question. Having to press the TV/VID button to switch the TV channel is not so bad but I've had to choose an obscure button to select DVD audio on my home theatre system.

Having looked through the forum I think I need an extender to get a macro to run from a device select button. Is there an exstension available for the Atlas 5 DVR? Or is there a way of doing this without an extender?

Thanks,
Steve

There is no extender currently available for the Atlas DVR, mainly because it has only a 1K EEPROM, and an extender would use most of the 1K.

However, you don't need an extender to put a macro on the shifted device buttons. So you could, for example, put a macro on Shift-DVD that sends the commands needed to watch a DVD. Same for Shift-VCR, etc. A macro on Shift-Power can turn everything off. In case it's not obvious, you access shifted buttons by first momentarily pressing the Setup button, which is pretty easy to do on the Atlas DVR remote.

Thanks for the tip on using shift-DVD/TV/CBL. It's working well. My only reservation is how slowly the macros run but functionality is perfect.

Picked one up from Ebay after reading posts about it here. What an EXCELLENT remote for anyone with a Scientific Atlantic Explorer, especially the DVR version! I was using an 9910 with extender before and it would have been perfect if it had the page up/down buttons by the navigations.

The only thing I miss (and would complete it's perfectness for me :P) is the macro on any button. Same desire to auto switch my receiver when I select a device button and to enhance the power button (other then the hold for 2 seconds master power). Would it take up a lot of memory if an extender was written just to perform that?

I did program the shift device but that's not as simple for the wife and kids.
