Setup code for DVD part of Advent TV/DVD combo DV2418A

Post by gfb107 »

1. Device: Advent DV2418A (Here the user manual)
2. Type of device: TV/DVD combo
3. Remote model: URC-8810w
4. JP1 user? Yes
5. Still have original remote? No
6. Checked Yahoo file section? Yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes

My neighbor lost the original remote for this device, and I convinced him to get a URC-8810w to replace it.

We found that Setup code TV/1254 control the TV portion. He's thrilled about that.
Setup code DVD/0081 does power the DVD portion on/off, but the other functions don't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Setup code DVD/0081 does power the DVD portion on/off,
That setup code is VCR/0081. There is no DVD/0081. I have lots of data on VCRs that use that setup code, but I can't find any on DVDs.

That Power toggle command is RC5, device 5, OBC 12.

Does the DVD portion really power toggle seperately from the TV portion?

That one has just RC5 device 0 functions. It looks like a superset of TV/1254, so I expect it's mostly right. It seems to have DVD functions using the same RC5 device code (0) as the TV functions. That's surprising given what Greg said about the DVD power toggle. That might mean whoever made that upgrade missed the device number on some DVD functions and never really tested the results. Or maybe Gre is wrong about VCR/0081. Or maybe this device is just strange.

Anyway the search space for all possible commands doesn't seem to be too large.

I noticed all that too. When looking at the VCR/0081 setup code I noticed that most of the OBCs were pretty similar to those in TV/1254, so seeing as how the POWER button is the only one that does anything, I suspect that the DVD functions are really part of device code 0. I suspect that the unit is programmed to respond to both the device code 0 and device code 5 POWER command for some reason.

Also, if you look at the OBCs in that upgrade, there's only one duplicated code (ie, ZOOM and LAST CH share the same OBC), so I suspect that the codes are correct.

I don't know how I missed that one. I did go looking. Really, I did!

I'll give it a try a report back, after my neighbor gets home from work.
