HELP - 1st POST

Just got my remote (8811) and JP1 cable from Rob today (thanks Rob) and have tried to get it working.
I am usually fairly proficient with technical things but I have not began to grasp the JP1 thing yet.
I hooked up my remote and it worked fine. I downloaded it into IR and that worked as well.
I managed to get my Panasonic TV working using the included code on the remote.
I found and downloaded the device code for my Kenwood Receiver VR-615) in the file section.
When I opened it in Keymap and copied the upgrade to IR and pasted it in the Upgrade Device in the ADD section and I click 'OK' is asks me if I want to assign 'Audio 1313' to a device button. I answered yes but didn't know which to select. When I selected 'RCVR' (thinking receiver) I get the error message "AdvCode object not found".
:?: :?: What am I doing wrong?
Please help as this is my first attempt with JP1 - is there someplace that explains exactly what I am supposed to do? I have read the beginners guide, the just how easy and the what and why documents but am still not getting this!
Thanks in advance!
If you need something more from me I will do my best to provide it - just ask me / tell me how.
Also - how do you do a 9-8-1 reset on the 8811? Wow that must make me seem really  (am I a newbie!)

It's not obvious that you did anything wrong. My guess is that the "AdvCode object not found" error has something to do with an incorrect key move assignment.

Did you change the selected remote in KM to match the 8811 (use the URC-881x/801x/601x entry) BEFORE you copied the code over to IR?

Yes, I did change the remote to the 8811 in KMl before copying.

I just did a quick test and there appears to be a bug in the latest IR version 6.00 RC1 (is that what your using?). I was able to work around it by doing the following:

Close and reopen IR.
Load your configuration file or download from the remote.
On the General tab, set the RCVR device button to Audio 1313.
Go to the Devices tab and add in the upgrade code.

You won't be prompted to select the device because it's already set, and the key moves will be recognized.

This is a pretty tricky maneuver, please follow these steps very carefully...

1) Press and hold the SET button, wait for 2 flashes.
2) Type 981, 4 flashes
3) Put the remote down and walk away

Thanks to both of you!

The receiver now works!

I couldn't tell if you were being a smart @$$ or not Rob - I wasn't using th 'SET' button but now I know that too!

This won't be my last question - I am sure!

It is truely awesome that a question can be posted and a complete solution developed within the hour (under a half hour actually)!

You guys rock :D

This is a bug in 6.00 RC1. It only occurs when adding an upgrade device that has KeyMoves embedded within it, and only if the device is not bound to a device button prior to being added to IR. I will post a fix when I return next week, but in the meantime, this can be worked around by maknig sure that the device (in this case Audio 1313) is already assigned to a device button before installing the upgrade.
