Trying to load my IR file into KM...

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

Trying to load my IR file into KM...

Post by birdman-2 »

From keymap-master 8.31, there is an load option, but every time I try to load a .ir or a txt file, I get this message:

"The file does not appear to be a valid keymap-master Device Upgrade.
Please select another file..."

How do I load my existing IR file that I downlaoded from my remote?
Just my Two Cents...

You need to read some more documentation.

KeymapMaster (KM) and RemoteMaster (RM) are used for creating and editing device upgrades. IR is used for manipulating the IR files.

The way JP1 works is by directly accessing the EEPROM on the remote, which contains only device and protocol upgrades, key-moves, macros, learned signals, and other user settings. It does not contain the builtin device definitions. These can not be downloaded from the remote (at least not using JP1), as they are stored in ROM, which the JP1 interface does not have access to.

Thanks for your reply!!

I have read several documents but just wasn't understanding things real well yet. As you can tell, I am a bit new to this hobby. So what you are telling me is that you can't go from IR to KM but from files you build or download from the web into KM then to IR.

What documantation can you point me to to get a better understanding. Most of the problem is new terminology so it may take me a bit to grasp the whole consept.

Thanks again!!

Just when you enter the Beginners section, look at the second Sticky. Good stuff in there. Enjoy!
