Sony PS2 (70000 series)

Post by Knees1339 »

I just purchased the new Sony PS2, (70000 series), and am having some trouble getting some functions to work from the posted files.

Specifically:

-Slow forward (slow reverse is fine using subdevice 73, OBC 96, but OBC 97 doesn't work, for some reason)
-Subtitle (neither OBC 98 or 99 works)
-Time Clock display (to get a movie progress counter) (OBC 40 doesn't work)

I have consulted the list mentioned in the "Sony Codes" sticky post, and I have tried both the KM files in the Yahoo group.

The 70000 series come with IR receivers built in, so it's not a case of just copying from an existing remote (although I guess it might come to that).

Has anyone else had any luck (I'm using a 2117)

Cheers!

Are there buttons for these functions on the original Sony remote? If so, all you need to do is learn them and see what the device and command codes really are.

Hopefully, there are such buttons out there. The existing PS2 device files don't do the trick (even seem to have some errors (such as the code for Slow RV being the same as the code for number 4).

Unfortunately, the 70000 series doesn't ship with its own remote... Given that I own 4 JP1 remotes, it seemed a pity to go out and buy a PS2 remote. It might come to that, though...

If you don't have an original remote to learn from, why not just create upgrades that have every OBC from 0 thru to 127 and try each button to see exactly what it does. Then compare your results with the list on the Sony site.

All in all I bet this will be quicker and cheaper than buying a Sony remote.

Just a followup:

I've found the OBCs for the missing functions.

All worked fine on an unextended testbed remote config. Now I'm trying to use the device config in my regular extender 2 setup, and the codes I've added no longer work. I can't tell if the problem is in the KM spreadsheet or IR, so I need to work a little longer on the problem, first...

I may yet come running for help!

Cheers!

Then don't keep them to yourself, please share.

I'm a moron. OBCs 40, 96, 97 and 99 all work fine.

(as time display, slow back, slow forward and subtitle, respectively).

The existing PS2 KM files, then, are problematic for the new PS2. The Sony codes listings at the comprehensive site ARE, I repeat, ARE correct (but you kave to tinker with KM for the PS2 stuff).

My problem was that I had some lurking KeyMoves on the DVD device (from my old DVD player) that I neglected to delete, and were over-riding my upgrade.

My apologies for wasting people's time...

Then create a new KM file for this model.

Done. It was only three function changes. Where would you like it put? In the file section here? Or at Yahoo?

To be safe you could put it in both. I am in the process of copying all the files from the old Yahoo file section over to the file section here and when I'm done I will close the old file section.

Done.

In the forums files section, it can be found here.

At Yahoo Groups, it can be found here.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers!
