Luxman Power Code

Post by Tim Nanson »

I am new to this form and have the following question. I will use your template:

1) Device: Luxman Model R115
2) Type of Device: Audio receiver/Amp
3) Remote Model: URC-8800 a/v producer
4) JP1 user: yes, I have build the cable and it works
5) Still have original remote: NO, never did.
6) Checked Yahoo: YES
7) Checked Pronto file: Yes and found a file

Situation: On the URC- 8800 CD code 093 operates most of the functions for both the R-115 receiver/amp and the Luxman DC-113 CD player. For the receiver the power button will turn the unit OFF but not ON. It has no effect on the on/off control of the CD player.
On the Pronto site I found and downloaded the file for the R-115 remote which I assume was for the R-115 receiver.

1) Problem: When I tried to use the OBC code (056 XXX) as the ON function and tried to upload it I got an OUT OF RANGE error message. I was attempting to assign the ON function to the POWER button and reassigning the OFF function to the Shift-Power Button. What have I done wrong?

2) Question: When I unload an upgrade to the CD device (or any device) are all function replaced or only those I have re-programed? In other words if I only try to assign a new function to a particular button is only that button affected and will the other buttons be left as they were prior to the change. What I am trying to do is avoid a lot of typing to fill in the OBC numbers for function that already exist. Pronto numbers are cumbersome as compared to using a readily available template in KM.

Thanks for the help.

If you create a brand new upgrade, only the buttons that you program will work, but if all you're doing is programming keymoves, all the existing buttons will still work.

When you decode the Pronto file, use DecodeCCF, then open the output using Excel. This will organize the data into nice neat columns, which you can then cut & paste over into KM.

Rob,

thank you for the reply. I took some time this weekend to try to figure things out and perhaps ask better questions.

You suggested that I decode the file, copy into excell and then from there paste the info into KM.

I had already done this. As an example here is a line from the decoded file for the Lexman R-114 remote: This is the ON function.

Protocol Device SubDev OBC Function Once
0000 006D 0000 0002 0156 0056 0015 0E54 Learned 38.0289

I am not sure how to interpret this information.

In the URC 9800/8800 I want to take "CD setup code 0093" and add this function to the shift-power button. The numbers in the list do not seem to have a place in KM.

How do I proceed in KM?

Two more questions please. When KM is run and I load the template for the URC 9800/8800 the first page has some values in it but the function sheet only has function names. I thought that the values would be loaded as well. Am I doing something wrong? How do I populate this sheet with the remotes default values?

Thank you for all your help.

Tim

I just created a KM upgrade file based on CD/0093. I also found two other codes that use the same signals, those being Audio/0035 and Tape/0266, and for the most part the EFCs match.

I suggest that you use this KM file as a starting point, relabelling functions as appropiate, then try the gap OBCs to see what they do. For example, the POWER button uses OBC 95 and none of the buttons use OBC 94, so I would try 94 and 96 to see if either of them are the discrete ON code.

As for that R-114 file, I was looking at that the other day to help someone with an R-114 and I determined that it's crap. I bet none of the signals in it actually work. It looks like he just learned the tail end of the signal and totally missed the data portion.

Rob didn't explain that the above is a fall back form of output for DecodeCCF used when it can't figure out the input. If it had inderstood the input, its output would have been more useful.

Rob did explain DecodeCCF's failure to understand that input. Sometimes it's because of something wrong or incomplete in my programming of DecodeCCF or DecodeIR.dll, but this time it's because the input is crap.

As Rob suggested, you get learned signals like that by pressing the original remote's key before the Pronto starts to learn and holding it pressed to learn the tail of the signal as the Pronto starts learning.

Rob,

Thank you for your reply. I will try your upgrade. I assume that I can take the file directly into KM and from there I will see which keys are the ON and OFF functions which I can then assign to Buttons or leave as is.

My wife can attest to how much time I spent over the weekend trying to make sense of the data...... thank you for telling me it was crap, I just wish I could have recognized it and saved a lot of time. There is hope for the future.

I had a secondary question and that was, when loading a template into KM should the FUNCTION sheet be populated with the OBC codes?

Johnsfine

Thank you also for your contribution to my learning curve.

The file that I posted is an exact replica of the CD/0093 code that's in your URC-8800, nothing more, nothing less, and the function names are simply the names of the buttons that the function is assigned to as part of the CD/0093 code. So the names of the function entries do not really reflect what the functions are, they just reflect the names of the buttons that the UEI programmers chose to assign them to. I would expect you to re-label the functions based on your observations of what they really do. For example, you might re-label the POWER function as "Receiver Power Off".

Normally, if you had the original remote and a JP1 learning remote (and the URC-8800 doesn't count, because it stores it's learned signals elsewhere), you would learn the "functions" from the original remote, decode them, and then enter the results in the Functions sheet in KM, where the name of each entry is the name of the original button. You would then use the Buttons sheet to actually assign these functions to buttons.

As you have neither the original remote nor a JP1 learning remote, the best you can do is try all the un-accounted for OBCs to see what they do (if anything).

While I would recommend that you try all un-accounted for OBCs in the 000 thru 255 range, it's not uncommon for OEMs to leave the 3rd bit clear in all of their signals, which would limit the valid ranges of OBCs to the following:

0 thru 31
64 thru 95
128 thru 159
192 thru 223

All of the OBCs in the CD/0093 code fall into the first 2 ranges, and here are the gap OBCs:

11,16,17,23-28,30,31
64-87,89,94

If you ignore the big stretch from 64 to 87, that only leaves 13 OBCs to test.
