JP1 Remotes

I'm looking for for a JP1 code that will work with this recorder. I got the recorder on clearance without a remote so i don't have the original to make up my own. Any help would be appreciated. I'm currently using the code for the RD-X2 which supplies most of the keys but is missing a few that are on the XS32. My remote is the OFA 9910.

1) Which keys are missing? Toshiba tends to have patterns in the use of OBC numbers, so it may be easy to guess the missing ones.

2) There are only 256 possible commands. That upgrade already includes 67 of them. It wouldn't be too hard to just try all the rest. Try sorting the existing ones into OBC sequence first, both to see patterns and to see gaps. That's easy to do in RM (just click on the OBC column header). That's a little harder to do in KM, but worth the effort.

Certain big gaps in the OBC sequence: 32-63, 96-127 and 224-255 probably exist for reasons internal to Toshiba's firmware structure, so missing commands are much less likely to be in those large gaps than in the smaller gaps. (So search the other gaps first).

I have the Toshiba and a learning remote that is JP1 compatiable, if its just a few commands I could learn them and post the learned data from IR if that helps.

The existing upgrade has the following commands (sorted by OBC number). If the command naming is consistent enough for you to tell which functions are missing from this list (what does your remote have that this list doesn't) you could learn them and let IR.EXE decode them and post the OBC number and function name for each missing command.

BTW, how does the original Toshiba remote have room for such a large number of functions? Is it really big or has tiny buttons or shifting or what?

It not quite that simple, (it never is)

I do not use the learning one for all JP remote with the Toshiba, BUT, if you can list the commands that are missing from your upgrade compared to the picture in the manual (you can find this in PDF format), I can learn just the missing commands and let you know the data.

I taught the commands from the Toshiba remote to my Marantz RC2000II, so never use it - but it is quite densely packed !

For anyone else watching this, the remote for the RD-X2 is almost identical to the remote for the XS32, the only difference is that the button labelled "Easy Navi" on the XS32 remote is labelled "virtual remote" on the RD-X2 remote. I checked the KM file for the RD-X2 and the "Notes" column explained what a couple of the mis-labelled buttons where, so here is the complete list of OBCs from the file, which just leaves the 2 buttons mentioned above that are missing:

I found the user manual in PDF format that shows what buttons are below the door at the bottom of the remote.

The 9910 has a shift operation, so you can have twice as many functions as buttons.

IIRC the shift button is inconvenient, so you may want to use the exenter (software) that I think lets you select a different key for shift. It also makes shifting digits simpler.

Another way to deal with a device with too many functions is to make a second setup code for some group of less common functions. Then use either another device mode or the device toggler protocol to access that setup code.
