Hi All.
I lost the remote for my Goldstar VCR long time ago.. and never really needed it since I only used to to play tapes. But my other VCR crapped out, so I need to use this one to record from the RCA inputs.. (input1, video in.. whatever you want to call it. )
I have a Handspring Visor PDA and downloaded Omniremote.
I figured out that the Goldstar Uses Remote code VCR1 0037.
But the specific functions arent in the program. so I cant use them
I need to get the VCR to switch over to "video in" mode. I found an app that will use CCF files used in Pronto Remotes and convert them over to the databases used in the palm app. So I can put in the correct hex codes, but I dont have the ones for that VCR..
I found this list of codes on this site:
Advanced Codes for VCR_0037
VCR_Goldstar_0037
235-100
038-SEL/LOCK
042-ADD
100-SHIFT
107-AUTO: A PROG
123-SLOW
122-CATV
251-SLOW DN
250-CLEAR
247-SLOW UP
103-ERASE
102-TU/SC/AV
036-MEMO: CLK/CNT
120-TV/VCR
118-MENU
168-TRACKING DN
104-PIP
164-TRACKING UP
043-QTR LENGTH
040-RECALL: RESET
039-QTR START
116-POWER: OPERATE
037-SP/LP/EP
229-VOLUME UP
117-ENTER: FRAME
233-VOLUME DN
246-DISPLAY: ENTER
232-MUTE
170-VCR+
181-EJECT
116-DISPLAY
250-MONITOR
102-INPUT
The Input seems to be the code I need, but I have no idea what the HEX code for that would be..
Can anyone help out?
Thanks
Ron

Why not just use a CCF file for a Goldstar VCR?

That CCF file has rather bad learns and has just a subset of the commands. It does not include the TU/SC/AV command (EFC=102, OBC=86) that is requested here.
I suggest you get the MakeHex program and generate all 256 possible commands for NEC1 protocol, device 110.
Unfortunately those will be listed by OBC number and the source you quoted above is EFC number, so you'd need to translate EFC to OBC (using JP1 software) to use the above list.
Meanwhile, here is command 86

Your right.. . but the HEX isnt working
Hi Johnsfine
Your right the CCF codes are not good thats why Im struggling with this..
Thanks for the Hex codes, but for some reason the one you gave me is not working.
Tried to put it into omniremote and its not recognized.
I used ProntoEdit, inserted the code to the button then converted the file to PDB and tsf it to my palm and it wouldnt use the file.
I tried pasting it into memo pad to get it recognized from there and it wouldnt read it.
Seems too long?
Please let me know
Thanks

The hex code that John posted is a totally clean "learn" and is a very common protocol, so if there's a problem it's not with the code itself.

ok so what is next?
Total newbie at this..
Does the HEX code need to be typed in a certain number of blocks per line?
Seems my Palm app spits them out 6 blocks per line.
any other suggestions?
The Goldstar CCF code online has most of the codes but they are learns and its missing the "input" button/code.
Frustrated
Thanks

Re: ok so what is next?
It needs to be all one line, with just one blank (never a newline) between each 4-digit number and the next.rjanjua wrote: Does the HEX code need to be typed in a certain number of blocks per line?
This forum and almost any program you use Pronto hex in will display it wrapped (with line breaks in place of some of the blanks) but the line breaks aren't really there.
If you highlight and copy (^C) to text to the clipboard, it will go onto the clipboard as a single line, and can be pasted to other applications as a single line.
Other ideas:
1) Some VCRs can reach their alternate inputs by selecting channel 2 and them pressing the CH- key.
2) About 18 years ago (before I met her), my wife bought a Goldstar VCR that uses this same protocol. My kids broke it about 10 years ago, but long before that I did a complete test of all 256 commands and wrote a text file of how it responded. I think I still have that file on a computer I can check this evening.

I had mixed together my data from Goldstar with my data from LXI, because the functions the Goldstar supported were a strict subset of the functions LXI supported. Now I can't tell for sure which functions the Goldstar supported.
Anyway, the only input select in my (LXI/Goldstar) list is the same as the one in Rob's list. I'm not certain, but I think my wife's Goldstar VCR didn't support that command, meaning it could only get to the video in by CH- from channel 2.
All the basic commands that could be supported by the Goldstar are already in Rob's list. I didn't check (against Rob's list) the advanced commands that I know only the LXI (not the Goldstar) supported, but I think those are also mostly present in Rob's list.
