RS15-2117, KM/IR and shift keys

Hi
I have been having a problem w/ programing the shift-<key>
using a combination of KM and IR. The same function when mapped
to a key directly seems to work.

Here is what I did :
-- Remote : RadioShack 15-2117
-- In KM, I mapped a regular function AND shift-<key> in the buttons
tab
-- Copied the generated code into IR
-- Within IR, used shift function to program a macro
-- Uploaded to remote
-- The shift-macro works, (other keymoves work) but the shift-<key>
functions programmed in KM didn't seem to carry over.

Any help is appreciated.

Well, first things first, test to see if the keymoves work outside of the macro (ie, press shift {the green P button} then the button). If that works, check your macro, when you added the shifted button, did you use "add shift" button ?

If you've verified both of the above, please zip together both your KM and IR files and post them to the Diagnosis Area. Then read the "how to post links thread" and post a link back here to the file.

Another thing to check: Did you assign the "shift-<key>" function in KM to one of the digit keys? If so, and you are not using an extender on your 15-2117, then you must press the "P" (setup) button twice to activate shifted digit keys.

When you pasted the upgrade code into IR, did it warn about the upgrade not being assigned to a device button and whether you wanted to assign it to one? If it did, and you chose "No", then the key moves contained in the upgrade were discarded.

If you didn't get the prompt (or you did as instructed), check the Key Moves tab to verify that the key moves are in fact there.

Firstly, thanks everyone for your quick replies/suggestion. I did happen
to assign it to the num-keys and don't have the extender installed
(still a newbie ). It works when I press the 'P' key twice. Now, I
need to figure out what and why of the extender.

I wish KM could have a little blurb that you either need an extender
and/or about pressing the shift-key twice for this key mapping. I did
try to read a good deal of the docs but don't remember reading about
this "feature"

Even though you need to press P twice for shifted numeric buttons when you press the button directly, in macros programmed using JP1 all you need to do is use the "add shift" (or "ins shift") button instead of "add" (or "insert").

Maybe you were including the P button in the macro itself? If you do this, then you do need two of them, but it's a very inefficient way to program a macro with JP1.
