I am using an URC 9960 remote and I was trying to add a new device to it - a Technics/Panasonic HiFi combo.

Since there was no file already available I just picked a few butons that I needed and used the URC remote to learn them.

It worked fine and I saw that the protocol was Panasonic with the device number 160 and a varying subdevices numbers.

I tried using Remote Master to create the device code (Panasonic Combo2 below) but other than the volume button most buttons either don't work at all or do something completely different (ie not what I learned through URC)

Did you also copy the Protocol Upgrade code from RM into IR?

It might help if you would post your .rmdu file in addition to the .ir file.

Which brand is this device really (ie, Panasonic or Technics) and what is the model number. Judging from the few buttons that you learned, it does look like you have a device that uses a new set of panasonic commands.

If you look at this master file of commands that I created for Panasonic/Technics audio devices, you will see that while your learned volume controls match what all the other devices use, the other random buttons for the most part do not.

However, you are using the right protocol for this, as long as all the learned signals use the same main device code (ie, 160) with various sub-device codes.

Yes, I did copy the Protocol Upgrade to IR as well.

The exact model is: Panasonic CD System Stereo SC-CH7
It is fairly old, I bought it about 10 years ago if not more.

What is strange is that as learned, the commands work in the URC remote. But when I try to create a new device from them in RM and then copy it over to IR it does not work.

That's why I thought that when I created the new device in IR (RM) I did something wrong. Am I right? Or is the problem somewhere else?

Why don't you go ahead and learn all of the buttons, then post the resultig files for us to look at. In the first sweep, capture all the buttons that have logical buttons on the 9960 (ie, the numbers, volume, rewind, etc), then on the second sweep capture all the ones that don't have well-labelled corresponding buttons. For the second sweep, please post details of what was learned where.

I'll build an upgrade from this that you can test.

I have learned all buttons from the remote and posted the files here.

It ended up being 3 files where the first one has the matching buttons and the last two contain all other buttons. I added their description in the comment field of IR.

I hope someone will be able to make some sense out of it.

The EXIT button was linked to the CD open/close button.

Nope, this is using the standard "Panasonic Combo" protocol that is built into the 9960. When you look at a KM file with the naked eye, you can see a protocol upgrade, but that's just there for reference purposes. If you load the file into KM or RM you won't be given a protocol upgrade to load.

I tried loading this into RM, and ran into some problems which I will look at today. There are a number of issues, including some in the RDF for the 9960.
