Remote receiver question

Post by brbjr »

Just bought my first JP1 remote, the URC 6131 from Rob. My question is do I need an IR receiver for the computer, currently I am using the Hauppauge PVR 250 remote, and it has a receiver. Will I be able to use Hauppauge PVR 250 receiver with the JP1 remote? I will be using Girder 3.3.

I'm not certain what your real question is.

If you want the 6131 to duplicate the signals sent by the Hauppauge remote, it's slightly inconvenient that the 6131 isn't a learning remote, but Hauppauge remotes have been discussed here and at RC several times, so it shouldn't be hard to find the info needed to duplicate its signals.

Girder is supposed to be able to learn new signals and associate them with PC operations, so if your intent is to have the PC understand more or different signals than the Hauppauge sends, it should be pretty easy to find or create a suitable setup code that Girder can learn.

If your intent is to use Girder instead of the learning cabability of a JP1 remote to analyze other signals and help your 6131 support other devices, that been done but it's quite hard. It's much easier to get an 8811 for analyzing signals even if you prefer to use the 6131 for generating them.

Ask the Girder folks if the Hauppauge receiver is supported by Girder.
