Upgrade for Go Video DV1030 doesn't work?

Hello All,
I purchased a Go Video DV 1030 (VCR/DVD combo) at Target the other day. .There is no setup code for it for my URC 8811 so I created an upgrade file for it last night. Great success in capturing all the keys from the original remote (I just did the "DVD" buttons to make sure it worked first...it didn't...read on) and creating the upgrade file, but when I upload the file to my URC 8811, and test it on the Go Video DV 1030 (just for the DVD component), nothing happens.
Any ideas?

With the information you provide, it's hard to tell exactly what you did.
Please provide the IR .txt file with the learned signals, and the KM or RM upgrade file you created. Put them in the
Diagnosis Area at Yahoo, and then post links to the files here. Make sure you read

I have swapped out my older VCR and separate DVD for my combo deck. To the best of my knowledge, it is the DV 1030. I could not find a file for this so far, so I am trying to build it by hand.
My JP1 remote is the Radio Shack 6-in-1 15-2104. I have a cable purchased from this group from the days of when this site was on Yahoo, but I never really got into programming before now. I just upgraded the ir.exe software to 6.20.
I'm currently stumped on the "protocol name" step. Any ideas? Aside from having the proper hardware and software, I'm almost at a loss on how to program with it. Please be patient with me as I ramp up.
Many thanks,

Read the JP1 Beginner's Guide (linked in my sig).
Basically, you need to learn as many signals as you can, and download your remote to IR.exe. There, if (1) you have properly learned them, and (2) you have all of the latest rdf's unzipped and in the same directory as IR.exe, AND (3) you have the latest version of decodeIR.dll in the same directory, your learned signals should decode and provide you with all that you seek.

I've jumped through all those hoops. At this point I'm trying to build an upgrade using IR.exe and the Keymap Master spreadsheet. Problem is, what I've downloaded from the remote results in the protocol and device tabs being devoid of data. So I'm not sure what to input into the spreadsheet. I'll re-read the FAQ again, but I'm trying to go point-by-point as best as my brain will allow.

Post the IR file which contains the learned signals in the new Diagnosis Area (ie, on this web site, not the old yahoo one) and we'll take a look at it.

It's usually helpful if you specify what hoops you've jumped through, so that we don't ask you to repeat them. There's another sticky post (linked below in my sig "Something not working?") that tells you to do exactly what Rob just did - post the files in question (including links to them).
Are you certain that you have good learns? i.e. were both sets of batteries fully charged? proper learning technique? do the learned signals work (not always a guarantee that they'll decode, but it helps...)?

Check the Learned Signals tab. That's where you'll find the details you'll need to build the upgrade (the Device and Protocol tabs are where you place
your upgrade code). Selecting one of your learned signals should show the protocol, device, etc. On the off chance it's an unknown protocol upload the saved IR file to the diagnosis area.

Will do. Quick question on posting ettiquette in that thread ... is there an individual thread within for each .ir file, or should I post in the Flavor's Radio Shack 15-2104 11-18-05 thread?

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, so I'll just tell you what you should do.
1. Learn as many buttons as you can to the logically equivilent buttons on the 15-2104 (and verify that they work).
2. Download the memory using IR.exe and save the file.
3. Upload the file to the Diagnosis Area.
4. Post a link to the file here in THIS thread.

Hopefully this works. Here's the link to my upload

For now, I'm working on the DVD settings, trying to get the learned signals transferred into a non-learned profile. If I get this batch done, I'll add in the rest of the buttons to finish the DVD device, then do the same for the VCR device. Ironically, they are from the same settop unit and remote control, but seem to operate in two different modes.

You have a whole bunch of different stuff learned in this remote, so I have no idea which learned buttons are for the device in question. Furthermore, all of the learned buttons quite clearly show the protocol and device code info, so I can't explain why you can't see it on your end.
Please take a back up of your current IR file, then delete all the learned signals and just learn the buttons from your Go Video remote. Then re-post the file.

There seems to be a mixture of learned signals here from more than one device. Did you keep notes of what functions you had learned to which buttons?

The other devices are set and work fine. AUX is my tuner, TV is my TV and CBL/SAT is my cable box (with learned features from DVR). I suppose any learned features could and should switch over into a custom upgrade, but for starters I was hoping to to the new learned functions from the DVD device. If I can learn how to figure out the protocol and device info, I'll hopefully be able run with it.
Mental notes mostly, but as I look at the remote:
1s should be "run the settop in DVD mode"
2s should be "ditto in VCR mode"
3s should be subtitle switcher
4s should be audio switcher
then the directional buttons and "transport" buttons (i.e. stop, pause, play, reverse, etc) all look correct.
I'm unsure that the menu, guide, info and exit buttons are correct. I'd love to blank them out and start over but the programming portion of the remote stopped cooperating so I figured I'd filled up the memory.
There is a LOT more mapping I want to do, and I'll likely get there in time. I'm starting to make sense of this.
EDIT: New info ... as I download the settings from my remote, I get the following error: "There is a conflict at fixed data address $0019. Do you want to replace the existing data with fixed data?" I usually OK this and move on.
I'll do what Rob says now and blank out the remote, hoping to get just the DVD functions into memory.

Much better. It looks like almost all are "proton." The play and pause buttons (which are the same button on the source remote) have multiple settings ... and different settings from each other interestingly enough. Do I need to worry about that?
Here is my updated file.
