Is there a tool to learn EFC/OBCs from a remote via IRman?

In other words, a program that will capture the data from IRman and create information that I can use in KM?

Also is there a tool that I could use to extract the EFC/OBC information from an existing setup code in my remote?

Some of the experts here might be able to decipher data learned by IRMan, but there is no tool that automates it.

The JP1 tools only provide communication with the EEPROM. Setup code details reside in ROM, which they cannot access.

Is your JP1 remote a learning remote? If so, you don't need IRMan (whatever that is), you can use the remote to capture and decode signals. If it's not a learning remote, maybe you should pick up a learning remote for just this purpose. I have the URC_8811 availabel for $19, which is less than the Walmart price!

IRMan is a serial infrared receiver for the computer. In combination with a program like UICE, you can use your remote to control the computer. I have a computer hooked up to the Receiver & TV for the purpose of watching movies and listening to music, and I use the 8811 to control Windows and other applications like PowerDVD, Windows Media Player, etc. I have the 8811 also but it's only capable of learning 5 buttons for each device unless I'm missing something.

You don't need to USE the learned signals in the 8811. If you have a JP1 cable you can download the learned signals from the 8811 to the PC and have them decoded by the IR.EXE program (giving you the EFC etc).

The 8811 can learn to almost any key. The capacity may be around 5 buttons per device (often even less) but it isn't divided by device. If you empty the learned memory first, you probably can fit all the keys you need in one download. If not, you can just empty it again and do another batch. If you have data from other devices in your 8811 eeprom that you want to save, you can easily back it up via JP1 before you clear the 8811 and restore it again when you're done.

We don't have the software to decode IrMan learned signals. We probably could, but no one has had the time to develope that software. Since you have an easy enough JP1 way to get the info you want, it doesn't seem worthwhile to chase a harder way.

My mistake after reading the manual I was under the assumption that you could only learn new commands to the L1-L5 keys at the bottom of the remote. However, I was able to learn to regular keys no problem. I've got my remote set up exactly the way I want it now.
