Pass the asprin I'm getting a "HEX" ache.

I'm trying to do a PIP "punch thru" with all my video devices with a 6131M. Everything is working except for the swap button in the VCR mode. I can not find the correct HEX code for EFC 069. The scientific calculator on the computer that I used to do all the other keymoves shows EFC 069 to be HEX 45, but I can not get it to work. The VCR is an Emerson using code 0278. Could someone help me out? (I have a JPEG of my keymoves in IR but could not figure out how to post it here.)

Rather than trying to post a JPG, just load your IR file into the Diagnosis Area and we can look at in IR ourselves. Plus, PLEASE post a link to the file once it's there to make it easier for us to get it.

If you have the correct EFC, the hex code would be "00 45".

Do you have a TV setup code where the PIP buttons are defined correctly? If so, rather than setting up the keymoves in IR, do the keymoves on the remote itself (ie, copy the buttons from TV mode to the other modes) as this will result in 1-byte keymoves rather than 2.

I think you guys were up too late last night :-)

Decimal 69 is hex 45. EFC 069 is hex E9. Glenn, to calculate HEX-EFC relationships use the EFC Calculator in IR Tools|EFC Calculator.

Jon, you may be forgetting that the 6131 stores KeyMoves differently than other models.

Rob is clearly assuming (probably rightly) that Glenn was asking about hex for a keymove for a (non extender) 6131. So it would not be correct to use the EFC calculator.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the quick replies, unfortunately I don't get a chance to experiment with JP1 on a regular basis (I have two boys age 2 and 4 and for those of you that have kids, I don't think I need to explain.) :D
Jon, I used hex E9 and it worked great, (sorry I didn't know about the EFC Calculator in IR.).
Robman, I didn't try to do the keymoves on the remote itself yet, since trying the hex code seems to be the fewest steps to start out with. I'll try the keymoves later for more efficient memory useage.

Well that explains what I'm seeing with my 6131 (PVR, non extended). I'm trying to enter discrete Power On (EFC=227) and discrete Off (EFC=219) Keymoves for a RCA TV, setup code 0047. IR (v4.02) shows hex $0F & $2F respectively. Unfortunately.. for whatever reason those wont work in the 6131. I put those EFCs in my 8910 and/or 2117 (hex $3A & $3B) and they work fine in those remotes. Any idea why I cant get those EFC's to work in the 6131?

The non-extended 6131 uses a 2-byte hex command for key moves where the first byte is "00" and the 2nd byte is the hex value of the EFC decimal. In this case, ON: 227 = "00 E3", OFF: 219 = "00 DB". Be sure to select the Hex Cmd radio button in IR's Key Moves dialog.

Bottom line, if you program the EFCs manually on the remote, you'll be fine.

Great! Yes that worked. Thanks much Mark.
Bottom line, if you program the EFCs manually on the remote, you'll be fine.
Rob thanks for the tip. After reading Mark and your posts I did a search on manual EFCs and found this Post on manually entering 6131 EFCs:

I have retained that wisdom in my home grown JP1 Users Guide. :)

I concluded that I should use my 6131 to get my feet wet on extenders. :roll:
