Remote control to Motorola Arris vip 2853

Post by carl.sundvik@telia.com »

My condominium in Sweden has recently changed our TV Cable operator and also switched our box to Arris VIP 2853. I watch my Swedish TV in ur "winter home" in Spain via Slingbox and can not now find any remote to this box, although it seems to be quite common, at least in Sweden. Looked at other BIN files to Motorola devices - does anyone know if any of these could be used or if there is any activity to create a remote for this specific box?

Thanks a lot! Very quick reply! I have downloaded the files you sent and saved them. I did create "my own" remote a couple of years ago and if I rememer it correctly I have to be on the same rauter as the Slingbox to install - am I right? I am in Spain at the moment, so in that case I have to wait until I am in Stockholm again.

No, you can reconfigure the input from a remote location.

I will give it a try tomorrow. Hope I remeber the steps I used last time...It worked that time... I even impressed my daughter - 25 and it-engineer in spite of my 68 and a retired banker.... Any hints would be appreciated...

I am in Spain and are waiting for some problems with the basic installation of the new TV cable system in Stockholm to be sorted out. I hope that this will be fixed in the next few days. I do not want to give it a try if there are other problems that might be "mixed up" with my Slingbox attempt. Promise to be back with a report when I am finished!

Finaly the base installation of our new cable TV system in Stockholm is "stable". I have installed the remote you indicated. As it seems to be a success - I can change channels etc - I will wait to test all functions until I have been in Stockholm to test all at "base camp" - just now I am happy to have all base functions available in our Spanish apartment. Thanks for your help!

Good news. As the basic functions work I am confident it will be OK. It means we have the underlying protocol and device codes correct. The button codes are simply numbers between 0-255. So even if some are a wrong that is easilly fixed.

Alan,
I have one more problem... The box I have in Stockholm automatically turns itself off after a number of hours. I have tried all buttons on the remote I have installed but I can not turn the power back on again. Anything I can do? Anything you can do?
Regards

I only have one code for Power, and you said that worked normally ? What do you do on the real remote to switch it back on ?

I have not been in Stockholm yet myself. But I am going there mid week. It was my daughter that sorted out the problems with the base installation of the new cable TV system and left the box on when she left. I can give you an answer regarding the remote when I have been there. I guess it is the on-button" on the remote. But I will check. My fall back solution is to bring my remote control for my Sling Catcher and program that one "nose to nose" with the actual remote. That should work - or what do you think? But of course I would like my apps on iPad and iPhone to work as well. And then I need to have the power on button to work on the virtual remote. If I can not turn of the automatic power off function... I will be back to you!

I'm not sure, I have never tried that on the Slingcatcher. But my question still remains, if the box is on, does the power toggle put it into standby and back out again ? I need to know if the code itself is wrong.
