Macros - Newbie Question

I just want confirmation on a few items with Macros.

I want to set up a simple all power off macro regardless of which device button is selected. The discrete Power Off code has been put on shift Power for every device. I am thinking I would bind the macro to the Power Key and create a macro that is DEV1 ; shift _Power ; DEV2 ; shift Power ; etc.

1) Yes or No. When setting up Macros with IR they are not device specific. That is, the macro will execute regardless of which device button has been selected as long as their is nothing assigned to the key that the macro bound to.

2) Yes or No Is this behavior the same for both the extended version and the non extended version of the 6131, assuming I am not using the special protocols in the extender.

I know there are other more complex ways to do this with the extender (using DSM as described in the mini tutorial). I just want to start simple.

Thanks

The biggest issues with that is you will loose the standard power function for any given device. I usually set this up on the Shift-Power.

Yes to all three. Macros are global with or without the extender and the described method would take away both of the usual ways of getting at the ordinary power toggle command.

Well, then what explains below.

Interestingly, my macro only works when preceded by certain device buttons. I am guessing that this is because I already assigned an EFC to the same device button with RM. And thus when there is a contention the original assignment wins over the macro.

Sounds like you have a competing issue. Try the macro on an M key or L key and see if it works. Then try the rest.
