I have an Xsight Touch and have run into a problem. The ez-rc.com web site doesn't have an option for my Onkyo TX-NR818. But they have one that's close. They have one for the TX-NR717. That one works as far as it goes, but I'd like to be able to use all the functions on my remote and in a spreadsheet that documents everything it understands. In the past, I've used the NEC Combo protocol which allows for all the devices that I need (five) but only does one flavor at a time (NEC1 or NEC2). The device upgrade that I get from the ez-rc web site is something else. When I look at it in RMIR (v2.03 Alpha 21e), it has a protocol id of $0246 and calls it a manual protocol. It has six devices entered into the data portion, but I can't make any sense of them. They don't correspond to the device and subdevices that I'm used to dealing with. I have been able to add functions by entering the efc of the function and finding a similar subdevice entry to copy (the Byte 2 field). That seems to work. But I still need one subdevice their upgrade didn't use. The protocol is attractive because it allows for enough subdevices and lets me select between NEC1 and NEC2 for each function. Does anyone have any light they can shed on this? I do dabble with this occasionally, but I'm not an expert by any means.

Post the RMIR file with the partially working upgrade. We can probably figure this out.

I'm having a little trouble with my saved .rmir file. It won't reload into RMIR. I can create one from the remote, but that won't have any of my notes, etc. Here it is, if you can get it to work:

I'll keep trying to get something that I can get RMIR to load. There does seem to be some quirks in the alpha version of RMIR.

Here's one that loads but seems to get two device setup codes reversed on the general tab. I have no idea why that happens and I can't seem to fix it.

PID 0246 is almost the same as PID 017E (NEC1 or 2 Combo). 0246 can handle 6 different subdevices, while 017E can specify only up to 4. Here's a protocols.ini entry which describes 0246.
Code:
[NEC 1or2 SixSubs]
PID=02 46
DevParms=Device Code=210, Sub Device 1=109, Sub Device 2=108, Sub Device 3=172, Sub Device 4=2, Sub Device5=172, Sub Device 6=25, 1st OBC=0
DeviceTranslator=Translator(lsb,comp,0,8,0) Translator(lsb,comp,1,8,8) Translator(lsb,comp,2,8,16)  Translator(lsb,comp,3,8,24)  Translator(lsb,comp,4,8,32) Translator(lsb,comp,5,8,40) Translator(lsb,comp,6,8,48) Translator(lsb,comp,7,8,56)
FixedData=B4 49 C9 CA BF 67 00 00
CmdParms= Sub:0|1|2|3|4|5, 2nd Sub:0|1|2|3|none=4, OBC=0, Style :NEC1|NEC2=0
CmdParmInit=PickInitializer(0,1,2,3,4,5,6) PickInitializer(1,1,2,3,4,)
CmdTranslator=Translator(lsb,comp,2) Translator(0,3,13) Translator(1,3,10) Translator(3,1,9) Translator(comp,1,1,8,2)
DefaultCmd=00 00
Notes=Combines 6 subdevices for one device.  Allows each function to be specified as NEC1 or NEC2.  This executor can optionally send 2 NEC signals with separately specified subdevices, but the first OBC is a fixed value specified on the Setup tab.  Two signals are requested by specifying a second subdevice.  The second signal will be sent using the OBC entered on the Functions tab. \n\n\
If the 2nd subdevice is entered as "none" then a single signal is sent using the 1st subdevice column and the OBC specified on the Functions tab.
Code.S3C80=43 8C 82 8B 12 CF 44 08 08 01 21 00 FD 01 21 03 30 D2 DC 11 94 08 B6 E6 10 02 68 0C 08 C6 56 C0 07 87 20 04 08 C6 56 C0 38 E0 C0 E0 C0 E0 C0 87 30 04 39 0C 29 04 F6 FF 61 37 6F 0F 37 6D 06 F6 01 46 46 29 0D 46 29 01 8D 01 49 E4 0A 05 E4 0A 06 60 06 F6 01 46 E4 0C 04 F6 FF 61 37 6D E6 8B DE E4 0B 05 E4 0B 06 60 06 AF
Code.MAXQ610=33 69 82 0e 16 00 15 00 16 00 3f 00 05 10 56 01 ab 00 02 93 c0 81 12 08 16 c4 d9 07 53 da d1 c4 62 d4 04 70 7a 78 f8 81 12 08 16 c4 d9 07 53 da d1 c4 62 54 04 70 7a 78 f8 81 28 14 16 c4 d9 07 53 da d1 c4 16 c4 d9 38 12 c4 c4 03 53 db d1 c4 62 44 24 70 7a 77 f7 62 44 44 70 7b 78 f8 62 d4 00 80 14 16

The feature that allows sending two NEC signals is implemented here for only the first 4 subdevices, because I can't see how to implement specifying the remaining 2 subs in protocols.ini. The executor is capable of sending all 6.

So if you add this to your protocols.ini, then RMIR should be able to display the upgrade in an interpretable way.

Just to let you know, I did get this protocol entry to work. I'm not sure why I would ever want to send two different signals at once, but sending one signal works just fine. I am having a lot of trouble with RMIR alpha, though. I've done a factory reset to get a clean start, then started adding upgrades one at a time. After one or two upgrades, I can save the .rmir file but can't reload it successfully. Maybe I'll have to wait until it gets more solid before I can get this done. Thank you for your protocol entry.
