I am currently upgrading (downgrading?) my 7562 to a 8550 - Topline 8 and have hit a slight problem.
My upgrade DVD/1001 for my Thomson DVD Player seems to map the wrong functions to the keys.
I have checked and double checked the protocol/EFCs against those of my 7562 - they are identical and work in that remote. Further if there is only the one upgrade in the 8550 then it works fine - all keys mapped correctly.
An example is the PLAY key activated the on screen display, STOP activates the pause function.

Here is a memory dump of the offending config if anyone can shed any light on it.

Remember that you can go back and correct a link by editing your post. That is generally preferred over making a subsequent post with the corrected link. I've corrected your original link.

Dave,
do you know about the hidden service menu of the 8550? If you set a device (identical for all 8 device buttons) to setup code 971, you can enter this menu via "Options", once up = "Service". There is an item named "AntiPiracy, set it to off and try your upgrades again.

I had read about AP (but did not know what it did) - I heard a reference to selecting it, but not what mode to put it in.
Will try that and let you know later

btw who would want to pirate a remote - or is there some other reason for this 'feature'?

They are (foolishly) trying to protect themselves from some other remote company who might try to copy the IR database from this remote, one button at a time.

There are two different versions of protocol 004B. The RDF file tells RM which version your remote has. I think those are correct, but I don't have any good way to test.

I am wondering if the version in the two remotes is different?

Does anyone have the relevant data for each version I could load into IR to test?

Thanks, Dave

Actually, if you could point us to the KM/RM file you are using then I could make check the signals on a 740 remote (like your topline) and a S3C8 (like the 7560). On this side of the pond, I don't have a topline to test, so I can't work with your config.

Thanks,

Jason M.

Jason,

Here is the KM8.12 file I am using on the topline, and here is the one for the 7562.

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't see anything obviously wrong. Both the S3C8 and 740 versions do the same thing on my 7800 (S3C8) and 8800. I don't think this matters, but here's the upgrade protocol that I'm pasting in:

Upgrade Protocol 0 = 00 4B (P8/740)
0F 1D 11 80 0C E0 A2 01 10 06 06 03 97 06 E0 4E
14 17 5A 02 6F 5D 4C 00 FF
End

This should be what is in your Topline, but it's worth a shot. Also, I'd try deleting a few buttons to see if that helps. I'll sleep on it and let you know if I come up with anything else.

To save you some time I tried loading the upgrade into KM 5.09 and got the same upgrade.

I got the same results with various versins of KM too. Thing is the upgrade works when it is loaded on its own, just flops when part of my overall config.

Having tried some more, I think it may be something else as I currently have a toggle on the AUX1 button for my 2 DVD players - Just checked the other one and that is the same, even if I map it to ther device buttons.

Cant test mush more until I get my laptop to a charging point, but I will keep digging - its got to be something simple. Perhaps I'll learn the codes transmittd by the upgrade and see if there is a pattern to the scrambling

Right, I think I have solved the problem with my Thomson upgrade.
Loaded up RM (First time I have used it), set up the device, punched in the same OBC's, and as I suspected, it must be using the other $004B protocol as the returned EFC's were all different.
Loaded this to my configuration and it worked first time.

Thanks for your help - I am sure I will need more soon, but I promise I will try and solve the problems myself before asking.
