I could always use the help. It really is just a matter of making it a priority. I had hoped to get all the other protocols done first (I think the only ones left are RC-5/5x Combo and RCA Comobo w/ Duration, but there may have been some new ones added to KM since I started).
Anyway, I have taken a look at how the Device Combiner works in KM, and while it would be pretty easy to recreate that behavior, I think we want something more.
For example, rather than having to enter the Fixed Data as hex, it should be possible to either
1. Import the fixed data from an existing RM/KM device upgrade
2. Prompt for the device parms and generate the correct fixed data.
Unfortunately, I think either of these won't fit well in the current Setup Panel. I think the Device Combiner will need to have it's own special purpose panel (it would appear between the Setup and Functions panels when it is selected on the Setup panel).
I'd love to hear suggestion on what the UI should look like. _________________ -- Greg

So, I take it you understand how to format all the required hex code, etc, let me know if you need help with that.
As for the UI, my original thoughts were just to show a panel with multiple spots where the user could select a protocol and enter a device code, but I like the idea of merging upgrade files even better because then you can also merge the function lists. _________________ Rob

I'm still toying with different ideas about how to do this. One thing I keep getting stuck on is what to call the entity that combines a protocol and device parms/fixed data. This is the byte2 index in KM.
Whatever we end up calling it, I think I'll present the value in the Functions panel as protocol name followed by the values of the dev parms, in order, separated by dots.
Let's take Onkyo_TX-SR601_RCVR-1135.txt as an example.
Instead of 0,1,2, or 3, the choices in the pull down would be:
NEC1.210.109
NEC1.210.108
NEC1.210.109.21
NEC1.210.108.21
There would be a separate field for duration. _________________ -- Greg

I think you should make the user create individual upgrades first (as after all, in reality, they are probably looking to combine existing upgrades anyway). Then when in RM's Device Combiner mode, there should be some sort of UI panel where they can select all the upgrades that they want to combine.
Then on the Buttons panel, the functions for each upgrade should be presented to them, either all at once, or maybe through a seperate panel for each upgrade in the mix, either way, they don't need a "byte2" column because when they chose the function they will automatically be telling you which upgrade it comes from.
In KM, they have to re-enter all the functions from each device, then they need to use the "byte2" column to tell KM which upgrade the functions came from. _________________ Rob

I'm off for a week now, so I won't be able to help for a while. In the meantime, the best I can suggest is that you read Nishan's original special protocol file as this is what I based the KM code on. You could also unhide KM's "work" sheet and see how the code actually gets formulated.
If you still need help a week from now, I'll assist. _________________ Rob
