What about something like the X10 PowerMid remote extender or search for a similar extender that works by receiving the signal in one room, transmitting the information along your power lines and then blasting our IR a the other end?

Have seen them but not personally used them. Happily using a similar product to send 100Mb/s data from my home out to garage via power lines ("HomePlug" devices). One wouldn't have thought the bandwidth for an IR signal is particularly high.

Unless she already uses powerline-communicating devices, this seems like a poor approach. It would open up a whole new world of potential bugs and having to filter devices to prevent noise on the powerline. That's a lot of work when a single cat6 cable could run the IR signal hundreds of feet without any potential for loss.

Well powerline seems like overkill. I really think IR repeating is the way to go. All the signals ( Nec1, GI Cable ) are in the 37kHZ range. Nothing too challenging there.

Mind you, you didn't say how many closed doors. If it's just the doors on a cabinet in the same room then, of course, it could be overkill. If the equipment is out-with decent radio reception or you are in a densely urban area with competing signals, however...

The components are just behind wooden cabinet doors. Not in another room.
