Do you mean this file...
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=8983

If so, without changing the selected remote (from the RCA RCRP05B) I get this output...

Upgrade Code2 = 00 4B (Cable/0075) Dish Network VIP 722 (RM v2.02 Beta 1.5)
00 02 1D 3E FE FE FE 1E E6 11 00 00 80 00 00 68
78 08 2C 40 68 78 70 60 48 6C 00 50 5C D0 3C 1C
0C 80 C4 C8 84 7C E4 D8 58 94 88 8C 4C D4 E8 F4
EC 04 DC E4
KeyMoves
BF F0 04 00 4B 9C AE«Discrete Off»
End

which copies into IR.exe just fine.

I did change the remote to the Atlas 1056...
Think that caused it?

I copied the output from your post, and got the same result. I havent used this in forever. What is the significance of the protocol ID? Is it possible that I need a new version/copy of IR?

You shouldn't copy and paste the code from the post above, into an Atlas 1056, but even that worked without generating an error.

It might be a problem with the 1056 RDF.
Is this an extender, or are you using the standard RDF? If so, how old is that RDF? A long time ago there were some problems with the RDF and the F1, F2 and F3 keys, but that was sorted out a couple of years ago.
If you don't have the latest and greatest it might be a good time to change.

Also, could you paste the upgrade in this thread, so that we can see if that will work on our end?

Thanks. I DID get the same result with the RCA remote, but I will download a new 1056 RDF and try it!

Without being able to see exactly what you're doing, it's hard to say. Certainly, having out of date copies of the software would usually be a likely culprit.

I think in this case I'd like to see a screenshot of the data after it was pasted in and the error message pop-up appeared because I have a feeling that will tell us what's up.

Looks like I really dont know how to do that!

It appears to be something on your end. I used your code, Running ir.8.03 with the latest unextended 1056 RDF, it all works great.

To post a screen shot, see the sticky in the beginners forum.

Get that error no matter what upgrade or remote I try!
Bump the question ;
What is the significance of the required protocol ID?

Make sure you are selecting the Devices Tab in IR8.03 and not the Protocols Tab. After that, click on ADD button and then paste the above device upgrade and it should work.

I am still having a problem (been away from this too long). I think I ham having a device type issue. What device type should this upgrade be? Do I have to set the remote up to get the type correct?

you can use whatever type you like, it doesn't matter if you pick the "wrong" type (eg, using VCR for a sat dish, etc), so people usually pick the type that gives them the best button selection as some types include more buttons than others. However, you do need to use the same type in IR or RMIR, so of you call the upgrade VCR/1234 you can't call it SAT/1234 on the remote, it will need to be VCR/1234 there also, but this gets set automatically when you copy the upgrade block over.

Also, if you are using VPT (volume punch thru) be aware that it sometimes breaks if you use the wrong device type for the device button (eg, you assign a "VCR" code to the SAT device button.
