I first got a DIYgadget connector which did not work.
Then tried FTDI USB cable with bare wires. My own efforts to attach a bit of cable connector and its plug failed - the wires of the ribbon connector were tiny and did not take solder very well and, after very much fiddling, I could only get it to work intermittently or partially, and finally not at all.
The parts for the proper plug and postage would have cost as much as a DIYgadget connector ready made so I returned the original for replacement.
The DIYgadget replacement worked straight away so I am well satisfied with the excellent communications and the quick and helpful after-sales service which was provided.
The shrink wrap at the plug end covers and holds the plug and about 2" of cable which gives better support than the first version. Obviously this, and the connector itself, are potential problem areas for JP1 so I am trying to handle it carefully...
PS
With nothing new done to it, the FTDI interface with home-made plug has now worked occasionally too, so my earlier prolonged problems were probably not due to software installation but to the dodgy wiring of the interfaces. |
