Comcast Remote and Vizio Soundbar

Greetings All,

I recently purchased Vizio Soundbar (VHT510) and much to my dismay the Comcast remote (red OK button) does not support even the simpliest of tasks for this unit.

My question is, I see that Vizio supplies a code of 31517, but my remote doesn't recognize this. If I bought a JP1 cable, I would then have to create all of the functions and upload it to my remote, as after extensive searching I'm not finding anyone out there that has a code for this created, correct?

Secondly, would it be possible to just track down the EFC codes for power and volume +, volume - and just use it for those basic functions?

Thanks in advance for any help that can be given regarding this.

We have upgrade files for a couple of Vizio soundbars.

Vizio Sound Bar VSB200 (NEC dev 0)
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=10010

Vizio Sound Bar VSB-210WS (NEC2 dev 131.95)
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=7149

The Audio/1517 code that you heard about seems to most closely match the 2nd file above. If that's really the code that you need, unfortunately there's nothing similar enough that you could just use EFCs.

If you really need the upgrade in the first file above, you might be able to use EFCs. First, see if your remote has any of the following setup codes (add the correct leading digit if you need 5-digit setup codes):
TV/0864
TV/1144
DVD/1915

If you have one of those setup codes, program it then try the following EFCs:

00169 vol up
00168 vol down
00037 mute
00036 TVOL
00101 TSHD
00165 power
00164 input

Thanks much Rob! I'll give these a try and report back.

Your remote uses 5 digit EFCs not to be confused with a 5 digit setup code.

00169 vol up
00168 vol down
00037 mute
00036 TVOL
00101 TSHD
00165 power
00164 input

No I was just clarifying what Rob was telling you.

Since then I have found the manual for your remote.

It says that Audio 1517, will work your VH510 which matches up with the VSB-210WS upgrade.

Code: Select all

Power               = Power
Input                = Input
Volume Up         = Volume Down
Volume Down     = Volume Down
Mute                = Mute
Channel Up = Sub Volume Up
Channel Down = Sub Volume Down
Menu                = SRS TruSurround
INFO                = SRS TruVolume
Unfortunately Audio 1517 is not built in your remote.

Code 1517 is in
Radio shack models 15-100, 15-133, 15-134, 15-135
Oneforall models URC-10820 B00, URC-8820, URC-10820N, URC-8820n, URC-6820,URC-6690 HYBRID
RCA model RCRP05B
Cable OEM remotes Atlas 1025, Atlas 3000, Atlas 3033, Cox URC-7920B
Some Vizio TV remotes.

I don't know of any way to send those as EFCs with the remote that you have.

Great information! Thank you so kindly for all of this research! I'll have to begin the process of understanding the software and how to go about upgrading my remote.

Just as a follow up to Rob's response, code 11144 worked with my Comcast Remote! The Vizio Soundbar responded, I just needed to map out the EFC's to the corresponding buttons. Thanks again for all of your help! Great forum!

Great. Let us know if all the posted EFCs do what they're supposed to.

I recorded the IR signals from the respective device profile within Logitech Harmony Database. Just in case you decide in getting a JP1 cable these files will assist you in updating your remote with all of the twenty-three available commands.

the codes in eferz file match the ones that I posted, except for the INPUT code. The EFC that I posted for INPUT was 00164 whereas he has 3 different EFCs for INPUT (see below).

00075 Bass Up
00161 Input In
00141 Input Optical
00225 Input iPod
00037 Mute
00165 Power Toggle
00101 SRS TruSurround
00036 SRS TruVolume
00105 Sub Down
00040 Sub Up
00069 Treble Down
00073 Treble Up
00070 Volume Center Down
00133 Volume Center Up
00068 Volume Rear Down
00072 Volume Rear Up
00168 Volume Down
00169 Volume Up
00067 iPod Next Track
00063 iPod Prev Track
00062 iPod Play / Pause

Rob,

The basic EFC's all worked perfectly. I'll try getting into the more advanced EFC's when I get home today. You guys have all been a tremendous help!

Eferz, thanks for posting those files as well! I may indeed go the JP1 cable route should the advanced functions via EFC not work.

If the "advanced" function don't work using an EFC, they're unlikely to work using an upgrade.

Can you confirm which INPUT codes work please?

From my list:
00164 Input

From eferz's file:
00161 Input In
00141 Input Optical
00225 Input iPod

You should get a JP1 cable regardless. It will enable the remote do some miraculous things like turn led into gold, bring the dead to life, and herald in world peace. Okay, that might be over exaggerating a little bit but it will indeed make your remote much more valuable. One cable to bind them, one cable to rule them all!

Nice sell job! I think you guys might have converted me over to the dark side (of remotes that is). Thanks!
