Is it possible with software via an added protocol or some other software method to disable the RF of a Radio Shack 15-2117 remote?

The reason why, is that I have 2 of the remotes, and want to disable it for some devices being used by the remotes when using it to control something in the same room, but be able to send an RF command for some other devices. The remotes are used in different rooms.

The schematic has an RF Test signal from the microcontroller that if forced to zero will cause the output of the NAND gate to be driven high, but this might flood the local airwaves with an RF carrier. Perhaps an additional diode could be used to drive the output node to zero from RF Test.

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks,

Ira
