Parallel to USB converters - will they work?

I have a JP1 remote and a parallel JP1 cable.

My current PC doesn't have a legacy parallel port.

Does anyone know if a USB to parallel adapter ($4) will allow me to use my old cable? I have other machines which have a parallel port, so I don't need a new cable, but for convenience it would be nice to keep everything on my main machine.

Regards,

Andrew

No, but a PCI card will ($15).

One possible issue with a PCI card is that it uses non-standard addresses. I had to manually configure IR with the proper address from Device Manager. That's something that may or may not be updated in a newer IR (I changed to a new computer about 3 years ago.)

The ability to enter non-standard addresses was added to IR a few years ago and still works in the latest version. It must be entered manually.
